Kansas City Fashion Week
As we walked on the rep carpet to enter a secluded wide open space, filled with hundreds of seats surrounding a beautifully lit pearl white runway, we were ready to tweet the latest fashion ideas and share every amazing look on Instagram. No, this wasn’t MB Fashion Week in NY, but it certainly aspired to compete with the best and yet it managed to maintain true to its roots and midwest culture. As guests of Kansas City fashion week, Kim and I a chance to see and comment on some really unique and fashion forward runway looks made by over 20 upcoming and selfmade local designers. It was evident that they put their soul, passion, and stretched every inch of fabric to cover their models and tease the audience with their imaginations. After spending two days at the event, we witnessed some amazing designers: Watercolors High Fashion, BMDesigns, Haus Designs by Sierra Moses, Oblivion Clothing, Ola Style, christianMICHEAL and Evil Pawn Jewelry on Friday night. Then, Fermented Fruit by Eli Borrowman, Kalyn Valliere, Jamie Santomasso, Sushe by J. Tracey, Bridedoll by Caroline Williard, KMS Couture presents American Trash and House of Cochon on Saturday afternoon.

Here are a few of my favorite looks:

Color and volume are my two favorite trends for spring 2012. Watercolors High Fashion, BMDesigns and Haus Designs by Sierra Moses are definitely pushing these concepts and are on my list ‘I shall haves’.

The integration of bold colors and well draped dresses were refreshing and kept our eyes on the runway. Sushe by J. Tracey, Bridedoll by Caroline Willard and KMS Couture presents American Trash all did a fantastic job showing off these masterpieces.

I have always been a fan of Alexander McQueen because of his attention to detail and nod to military without going overboard, which is why I loved christianMICHEAL’s menswear jacket collection.

After two days of watching and wanting, I have to say, I really enjoyed the cohesive collections and the limitless boundaries of colors and creativity. It definitely made it fun to be a silent runway judge at the show.
