Shoulder Ruffles

Old Navy Ruffle-Trim Tencel® Dress

Whether we like to admit it or not, all of us have got that part of our body that we wish we could change. Some parts are ones that you can do something about, with eating healthy and exercising. Others are just god-given parts of you that you’re going have to learn to live with. For me this is my upper arm, which growing up my mom used to lovingly call “my wings”. No matter what I do, they pretty much stay the same size while alternating between states of flabby and muscliness. Now, I’m not saying I want to hide them with my clothes, because that would make it sound like I’m ashamed of my body (a firm “hell no” on that one). But there’s nothing wrong with donning a wardrobe that flatters your body and shines the best light on it, right? If you have the same gripes as me about your upper arm, then you’re gonna love the shoulder ruffles trend. It’s something that I initially thought I should avoid, but the ruffles actually build proportion and gives my body the illusion of a taller frame.

So there’s two ways to wear this trend: you can go the complete off-the-shoulder route, or go for the strapped variety. I prefer the latter, which I’m wearing in this blog post. Don’t get me wrong, I love off-the-shoulder tops and have worn them a whole bunch of times in the past. But hot damn, they can get really annoying when they keep riding up on you. See typically those kinds of tops rely on elastics around your shoulder to stay up, which means that every time you raise your arm up, the elastics will move. This is an inevitability, because you realistically will not keep your arms down all day. The strapped variety on the other hand, relies on the strap (duh) to stay up. So the frills around the shoulder tend to be loose and does not restrict your movement. Hence, you won’t have a problem with it riding up.

Plus, did I mention that this dress is made from a silky Tencel® material? So not only it is flattering but it’s also super soft and comfortable to wear. It truly does look good and feel good.
