The Most Important Rain Accessory

But the ultimate fashion accessory for a rainy day is not just any ol’ umbrella, but a clear domed one. Get a plain one with lucite handles and don’t even f*ck around with the cutesy pattern. Trust — you’ll thank me later. Printed umbrellas seem like a good idea when you’re getting them, but they’re always pain when you’re actually trying to match them to your outfit. That is assuming that, like me, you still want to look fresh to death even when its pouring out. Clear umbrellas are by definition neutral and goes with everything, with the added benefit of looking way more stylish than the plain black counterpart.

Pro-tip: in addition to being fashionable, clear domed umbrella are actually quite practical for a multitude of reasons. I don’t know about you guys, but typically what I care about protecting the most from the rain is my hair. And with my dome umbrella, I do this by holding it low close to my head (since it’s clear, I can still see through). Bonus benefit: this means I can just plow through the crowd without having to worry about poking people in the eye with the pointy tips of my umbrella — and important perk in crowded NYC.

And on those frosty days where the snow actually blows sideways? This baby will be your lifesaver. I’ve walked the streets of NYC, holding my umbrella sideways, using it as a literal shield. Since it’s clear, I can still see where I’m going (and I can also see those poor souls who has to squint and brave their way down the streets sans-protection).

Seriously guys, this one is a no-duh: the clear domed umbrella is a must have. It’s one of those rare fashion accessories that is the perfect unity of both function and form.
