8 Best Places to Shop for Maternity Wear

Storq Maternity Mini Dress

For the longest time I resisted buying maternity clothes. It worked for awhile since I didn’t really change in size much until around Christmas break, which I spent in the relatively mild winter weather of Texas. Most of that time I spent lounging my sweat pants and old t-shirts. When I do go out, I relied on my oversized tops and skirts with stretchy waistbands. I just hiked up the elastics over my belly. It wasn’t until I came back to the New York winter weather that I realized there’s no escaping buying maternity clothes — and I desperately need to get a pair of maternity tights to cover my cold legs.

But once I accepted my fate, I realized I had another problem. I really just have no clue where to shop for maternity wear. When I think of maternity wear, the stuff that comes to mind are maternity stores like Pea in the Pod. But really is that all there is? And do I really need to shell out $70 for a pair of jeans that I’m only going to wear for a few months? The answer is of course no and no. I’ve rounded up for you eight of my top favorite stores, that will cover all the budget and style you can think of. Read on to check out the complete list and see more of this outfit.

1. Amazon Prime
I’m already an Amazon Prime addict, so this was naturally the first place I looked for the basics. Since they’ve got tons of maternity stuff that’s two and even one-day Prime, it’s a great option for when you’re need something quick but are too busy to go to the store.

2. STORQ
STORQ is a great option for the minimalist mommies out there. I love all of their “not so basic” basics. But the best thing about their pieces is that theyre all designed so that it can be worn post pregnancy. That’s always a really good bonus in my book.

3. ASOS Maternity
As a 4’11” shorty pants, shopping for clothes is not easy to begin with. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought what is supposed to be a “midi” skirt or dress, only to have it go all the way to my ankle. I didn’t think it would be possible to find petite maternity sizing, but lo and behold ASOS has them (they have tall also).

4. H&M Mama
H&M Mama is great for two reasons. Firstly they are super affordable. Secondly, they are available in store. This is actually not a common combo as I typically find that the in-store maternity brands are usually on the expensive side. So if you’re like me and waited until you’re forced to buy that maternity leggings, it’s a great life saver. I should caveat though that not all of their stores carry the maternity line, so you might want to call and double check before making the trip.

5. Old Navy Maternity
Old Navy is another great option for affordable maternity clothing. They update their style fairly frequently and have a wide range of options from the basics to sundresses and more. You won’t have a hard time finding a style you like.

6. Seraphine
If Kate Middleton is your pregnancy style muse, then this is the brand you’ll covet. The Dutchess of Cambridge was seen out and about wearing pieces from Seraphine. They’ve got all your bases covered too, from casual dresses to evening formalwear.

7. Bae The Label
You know the struggle is real in searching for good maternity wear when you gotta look to the other side of the world for it. I love BAE’s fun and flirty styles and the fact that many of their pieces are also designed for breast feeding and post pregnancy.

8. Rent The Runway Maternity
Ok I’m cheating a bit on this one since technically you’re not buying your items. Rent the runway has a great selection of maternity pieces. And I’m not talking about just party gowns, although I did rent a gorgeous gold sequin piece for a Great Gatsby party early in my pregnancy. They also have a great selection of everyday pieces. If you’re the kind of person who likes to continuously update their wardrobe, their unlimited rental might be a more cost effective option for you.
