ModCloth The Open Road Dress

From my previous post, you guys know that I’m a fan of the slimming silhouette dresses. The open road dress from ModCloth is another one of my favorite. I got it a few years back, so it’s an oldie (but definitely a goodie). Aside from the curvy silhouette, I also love how versatile this dress is. The low back, although sexy, makes it a little bit risque to wear on its own to work. But all you gotta do is pair it with blazer and semi-opaque tights to make it work appropriate. Then at the end of the day, just shed off the blazer and you’ll have a smoking happy hour appropriate dress.

The Next Trend Comeback: JNCO Jeans

JNCO Jeans

You guys hear it from here first: this Spring’s hottest fashion comeback trend are JNCO jeans. Get them while they’re hot!

Just Kidding — APRIL FOOLS!

LOL we could’t resist taking a trip down memory lane as an April Fools joke. Do you remember when these pants were all the rave? I remember begging my mom for one of these; I think it was sometime during my freshmen year in high school. Well thank god she did not listen to me because then I’d have had to add that to the list of my teenage fashion disasters.

The Basics

I’ve had this endless shirt for a while, but mostly wear it with leggings and sneakers whenever I travel. Most comfortable outfit ever! I’ve also worn it with sweats, a vest, and hat to walk my dog or run quick errands. Back when I worked in a more business casual environment I would only wear a button up, like this, with slacks or a skirt. Now I realize just how versatile a basic piece like this can be.

How do you normally style a button up?

Military Jacket

ABS by Allen Schwartz Knit Open Blazer

Military jackets aren’t something that people usually think of as feminine. But for today’s blog post I’m putting a feminine twist to the jacket by pairing it with a full midi skirt.

Changes

Minneapolis got me good this past week. One day it was nice enough to wear a sleeveless dress, and the next day it starts to snow — WHAT THE WHAT!?! As a new Minnesotan, (is that even a word?) I’m starting to realize these are the types of weather changes I will have to get used to. Le sigh, so much for putting away all my scarfs and gloves for the season.

Reflections

Not many people are a fan of the whole wearing a dress with jeans thing, I AM (obviously), but it isn’t for everyone. I think I’m more drawn to mixing the two because it gives me a chance to get more wear out of my clothes, AND it’s easier to take your kiddo out, walk the dog, carry groceries, etc., when you don’t have to worry about a gust of wind showing everyone your panties (GASP!).

In other news, these photos were taken a day before a snow storm hit Minne (sad face). Le sigh, so much for Spring.

Tracks

I’ve been on a sneaker kick lately. I can’t help it, they’re just so much more comfortable to run around in than boots/booties. AND with all the new styles and colors available they have become a fun addition to my outfit. In the past I only wore my sneakers to the gym, but now it’s a wardrobe staple. I think the sneaker appeal stems from the weekend ritual of: chasing a kid, running errands, and walking my pup. I can’t realistically wear anything else without my feet being sore.

Has anyone else been living in sneaks?

H&M Cupro Dress

H&M Cupro Dress

When the dress you’re sort of interested in is sold out in store, does it mean it’s time to give up? Or do you move your search online?
I’m more of the later kind — I mean it can’t hurt to check. When I then saw that said dress was almost sold out and the only size available ones were in my size, of course I took that as a divine sign that I must get this dress. Sometimes I’m a bit sketchy about buying things online because unfortunately I don’t have the same body types as the models. So it was to my delight that when the dress came in the mail and I tried it on, it fit so perfectly. I just love when things work out like that!

Cutouts

March 12, 2015

TopShop Cut-Out Midi Bodycon Dress

Last Friday I stopped Topshop during my lunch break. The original plan was to get a party dress for an event I had planned to go to that night, but unfortunately I didn’t find any that fit the bill. Of course, it being Topshop, there was no way I had a strong enough will to leave empty handed. No matter how much I told myself to stay the course and look only for formal dresses, my eyes kept wandering and found other goodies in the store to try on, like this gorgeous cut-out mid bodycon dress. I love the simplicity of the dress, which will make it easy to layer and mix and match with other pieces I already own. The addition of the cutout to the dress gives it the perfect amount of interest that it can hold up on its own.

I must admit, when I first got the dress I felt pretty foolish. Not only did I get distracted and bought something I don’t need, I didn’t think I would be able to wear the dress for at least another month. Last week was still considerably cold in NYC, and it even snowed one of the days. Since I’m short, I cant really wear tights with this dress because it will “peek” through the cutouts.
As it turns out I got it just at the perfect time since the weather turned warmer on the weekend, giving me a chance to wear the dress to brunch sans tights. I just love when things work out like that.

Last Days

Last Days

I’m so excited about the warmer temps that we’ve been having lately. I leave with a coat on in the morning only to shed it in the afternoon. I feel like I dodged a bullet now that winter is almost over. From what I’ve gathered via Minne natives is that this was a mild winter, compared to prior seasons. I’ll take it! Who else is happy for all the snow to melt?

Cherry

I finally made it out to the infamous spoonbridge and cherry in a spoon at the Minneapolis sculpture garden. The garden has a variety of interesting sculptures to look at and a conservatory area where you can escape from the cold (bonus). What’s best part!?? The garden is free to walk through — if it’s free, it’s for me! I will definitely be back in the Spring to take more blog photos.

Giveaway Friday: Number 4 Haircare + PurseN Make Up Case

Number 4 Haircare Giveaway

TGIF! I’ve really been waiting for this Friday too. Weather is so crappy in New York (and in many other parts of the country too) that it doesn’t feel like Winter has left at all. I’m talking about the kind of weather that makes the week feel super drawn out. Isn’t it supposed to be Spring already? Where’s the sun, warmth, and blooming flowers?

Now that I’ve lived up north for a few years, I really understand the need for Spring break. At some point you just need a break from all this snow and horrid weather (especially when the spring weather doesn’t really feel like spring). I hope you guys have a wonderful getaway planned (if not, better get planning). We’ve got the perfect giveaway to go along with that trip. For today’s Giveaway Friday, one lucky reader will win a Number 4 Haircare travel set, perfect sizes to take on your getaway. And to top it off, we’re also giving away a super stylish and cute PurseN make up case.

Incognito

If you haven’t been able to tell from the super low blog and insta-posts, both Gita and I have been swamped. It feels like we both have travel, people visiting, and oh yea more travel scheduled at the same time. Basically defeating the purpose of having two people, so much for a back-up. On top of all that, anytime either of us attempted to squeeze pictures in the weather wouldn’t cooperate — snowing one day, raining another.

Anyone else get overwhelmed from time to time?

Castles

Castles

As long as you are bundled up, there are so many fun things to do and see in Minne during the winter. Our latest find is the Ice Castle. Which is just what you would think it is, a castle made of ice. The structure was really awesome in person, especially after finding out that the structure is built using ice from the frozen lakes, which is how the ice has the rich blue color. We went once during the day and again at night because they have a light and fire show. My son and I had so much fun and plan to squeeze in one more trip before the season is over.

Check

Check

I’m kinda obsessed with jeans, alright REALLY obsessed. The down side of my obsession is the cost (sad face). Even if I buy a pair on sale, I still need to have them tailored to fit. I have yet to find a brand/pair of jeans that fit right off the rack. Which is why I have decided to expand my wardrobe into tube skirts and dresses. Tube skirts are great because of the stretchy waist band, goodbye tailoring bill, and they can be dressed down which fits my mom lifestyle better.

Anyone else have an issue wearing jeans off the rack?

Topshop Midi Bodycon Dress

For those of you living in the colder states, you’re probably thinking that my outfit is looking crazy today. Obviously this blog photo wasn’t taken in NYC because it is crazy cold here right now! I went to visit my dad a few weekends ago in Texas and it’s so nice to be somewhere where the low temp are in the 60s.

NYFW Recap: Walter Mendez Fall / Winter 2015

February 23, 2015

I have to admit, prior to seeing his collection during the Arts Heart Fashion runway show this past Thursday, I didn’t know much about Walter Mendez. But now he’s forever etched into my brain, as his collection was hands down my favorite out of all that walked down that show. I loved loved loved the silhouette of his dresses, which I daresay will look amazing on most body types. Be on the lookout for this guy — we’re going to be hearing more and more of him and I am more than sure he’s on well his way to famedom.

Read on to see more photos and highlights from his show.
