Saturday Morning Shopping Excursion

December 11, 2012

One of the best things about living in New York City is all of the sample and warehouse sale that goes on all the time. So I was super excited to go to my very first one this past Saturday. I was in hog heaven—my girlfriends and I raided the Gilt City Warehouse sale!

As we entered the room, we immediately noticed the snack and refreshment bar, stocked with prosecco and skinny cosmo. Well don’t mind if I do. But we shortly realized that sample sales are serious business, which requires both hands! So we quickly abandoned our drinks and got busy digging the through the merchandise. It certainly was exciting hunting for fashion treasures. ☺

Outfit Combo: 1969 legging cords from Gap, faux-leather jacket from Romeo Juliet Cotoure (find similar here and here), shirt from Zara (find similar here and here), flats from Michael Kors (find similar here and here), beanie from Gap, Lady Dior Shopper handbag from Christian Dior.

Bike Lane Blues

December 4, 2012

OR blue hair in the bike lane?!??? Basically I couldn’t think of a good title for this post. It shows with my Capt Obvious choice of — ‘Bike Lane’. BUT really, the title of this post doesn’t matter, because it’s all about the outfit. More specifically, the polka dots socks! In the past I wouldn’t ever let my silly socks show, that would be tacky, right?!?? BUT for some reason this season I’m like HBDC (honey badger don’t care). I’m just gonna wear what I want… I mean it’s the whole point of having a blog, isn’t it.

Outfit Combo: sweater: Zara (old), jeans: Joe’s Jeans, socks: H&M, booties: Ann Taylor, bag: Gucci (old), and sunglasses: Burberry

Fall Into Winter

November 28, 2012

Seems like my adjustment into the northern cold weather is not going as smooth as I would like. Fall is not even officially over and already I am freezing my booty off!

I have heard that the worst of the winter typically hits around January and February. This makes me pretty nervous considering the current 30-40s New York weather is about as cold as it usually gets in Texas.
Understandably, my closet is not exactly full of snowy-winter weather clothing and accessories — at least not yet. In anticipation of the dropping temperatures, I am on the hunt for my “winter-survival gear”.
Here are just a few coveted items that are on the top of my list:

(listed in clock-wise order, starting from top left)
Grey dip dye faux fur jacket – $89 (on sale from $119)
Grey novelty badger beanie – $15 (on sale from $21)
Moncler Cernobbio quilted leather wedge boot – $1,250
MICHAEL by Michael Kors leather gloves – $98
DP London Nude owl scarf – $15 (on sale from $21)

What winter clothing or accessories are on top of your list?

‘Twas a Texas Thanksgiving

November 26, 2012

I thought I had heard the pilot wrong when he announced, as we are about to land in Dallas, that the weather outside was 80°. I mean it’s not possible for any november weather to be above 60°, even in Texas, right? Well I sure did find out when I walked out of the airport. Welcome to Texas Dorothy—we sure as hell not in New York anymore!
I didn’t mind though. It was sure nice to be able to wear my outfits without a thick jacket to cover it up, even if it’s just for the Thanksgiving weekend.

Outfit Combo: Rock Lock crossbody bag from Valentino, Peach Skin Lola dress from from American Apparel, booties from BCBG (find similar here and here).

Happy Thanksgiving!

NY Chick

November 19, 2012

As if there wasn’t plenty already, I found one more thing to love about NYC this past weekend: American Apparel Factory Store! I felt like I got away with murder since I left the store with $100 worth of merchandise and only paid about $20 for them. Better yet, on our way to dinner we walked by a Kid Robot store and saw that they had a “F@¥k Sandy” sale. Needless to say, I got much of my holiday shopping done then!

Outfit Combo: u-neck dress from American Apparel, faux-leather jacket from Romeo Juliet Cotoure (find similar here and here), tights from H&M (find similar here and here), denim cross-body bag from Matt & Nat (find similar here and here), lucite glasses from American Apparel.

Lions, Tigers, and Bears, Oh My!

November 15, 2012

I’ll always be a sucker for the good ‘ol cutesy kitten prints, but lately I’ve also been obsessed with animal graphic prints of the fiercer kind. I can’t quite pinpoint the attraction. Possibly it has to do with the don’t-mess-with-me-I-will-eat-you vibe that the print exudes. Here are just a few coveted items that are on my wish list:

(listed in clock-wise order, starting from top left)
SUNRISE Anonymous Bear leggings – $55
Lion Print Soft-touch Leggings – $28.49
Jeffrey Campbell High Top Tiger Sneaker – $89.95
White Tiger Muscle Tee – $14.80
Hand-cuffed bear necklace-22ct gold vermeil – $570.18
Hand-cuffed Bear pendant necklace -oxidized silver – $412.28

What’s your inner animal spirit?

Fall Back

November 8, 2012

One of the hardest things about Fall, is the ‘Fall Back’ aka setting the clocks back an hour. While in theory this sounds appealing, mainly the thought of ‘sleeping in’, the fact is time change is hella hard for my body and it doesn’t appear to get any easier. I’m pretty much out of sorts this whole week, le sigh. Thankfully coffee, girl scout cookies, and my party this weekend are getting me through it one day at a time.

How do you feel about ‘Falling Back’?

Outfit Combo: faux fur vest: Saks Red Label, shirt: Ann Taylor (similar here), skirt: ModCloth (similar here, and boots: Sam Edelman Empire

What’s a girl to do after the power’s turned back on in post-Sandy lower Manhattan? Take a really long hot shower, put on some non-wrinkled clothing, and go for a saturday shopping trip to 5th avenue, of course!
Who would’ve thought that taking showers and ironing your clothes would be considered a luxury in New York? I guess living in the city is always full of surprises and “new experiences.”

Camo & Leather

November 1, 2012

When the weather is unpredictable, one of my FAV pieces to pull out is this camo jacket from my military days. The gortex jacket is wind and rain friendly AND super warm, yet light as a feather. And although it isn’t the most flattering jacket in the world, I still LOVE it and continue to wear it without the matching pants off course.

Outfit Combo: sweater: Zara (men’s), shorts: Forever 21 (similar), tights: H&M, boots: Sam Edelman Empire, jacket: GI (gov issue from military days), and bag: Gucci (old)

Coveted Rain Gear

October 30, 2012

All this business with Hurricane Sandy made me realize how unprepared I am, wardrobe wise, with the rain. This wasn’t such a big deal in San Antonio, where I drove everywhere and parked my car in the protection of an underground garage.
