The party dress parade continues, this time with a velvet maxi piece from Boohoo. I just love velvet for party wear — something about the fabric just feels so decadent and perfect for any holiday or New Year’s Eve soiree.
A Voodoo Vixen Holiday
December 10, 2015Huzzah, it’s holiday season — time of the year for all the fun parties. I’m all about ugly sweater themed shindigs, but I do also love the kind of soirees that gives you a reason to get all glammed up. I’m using my upcoming office holiday party as an excuse to treat myself to a new party dress. It just so happens the party is going to be held in one of my favorite NYC spot and the site of Sleep No More: The McKittrick Hotel. Since the venue has a retro vibe, I figured I should get a retro dress to go along with it. The Amanda pencil ruffle dress from Voodoo Vixen fit the bill exactly for a Greta Garbo inspired look. I probably don’t have the hair exactly right (really need to learn how to do a finger curl), but meh, it’s close enough!
By the way, all the jewelry I’m wearing on this post, I got from the jewelry subscription service Rocksbox. If you guys are loving the pieces, you can try it out yourself for free. Yep, you read that right, you can try out the super gorgeous Illumina bib necklace for free courtesy of Rocksbox jewelry subscription service. Cozy Mix
December 8, 2015Cozy layers now that the weather is starting to cool down. Yay for the snow not sticking so I can still wear my booties!
Happy Tuesday!
Letter Jacket
December 3, 2015Growing up, I went to four different high schools and wasn’t much into sports — consequently I never had a letter jacket. But hey, it doesn’t mean I can’t buy one as an adult. Plus, this one is much more attractive than my old high school’s red and green jacket.
Color Block
December 1, 2015I’m keeping warm in by layering with this faux fur scarf. It’s cozy and updates my existing jackets… YAY!
Foxtrot
November 25, 2015My sister came to visit me last weekend. I love when she’s in town — she lives on the other side of the coast so we don’t see each other very often. Other than the awesome fact that she’s here, I also love that we get to borrow each other’s clothes for a bit, something that we haven’t done regularly since I was in high school. I’ve had my eye on her Maison Kitsune embroidered fox sweatshirt, so of course I jumped at her suggestion that I wear it for a blog post. I also tried to convince my sister to relinquish said sweatshirt to me, but this effort was rather unsuccessful (even when I attempted to make a barter). Well I guess I’ll just have to be happy borrowing it, since this sweatshirt is sold out everywhere.

Sleeveless
November 23, 2015It seems my days of wearing this sleeveless trench without an outer layer are over (insert sad face) the temps here in Minne have dropped to the high 30s and low 20s which means it is just a matter of time before we get our first snow. Can’t say if I’m happy about the change in weather or not BUT I’m excited for Thanksgiving aka fat kid day this week!
Cropped Short
November 20, 2015Yup, you are seeing it correctly: I decided to chop off most of my hair! Not sure what possessed me to do it — probably boredom. I always switch between long dramatic short and long. I get bored of my long hair, so I chop it off. Not long after that, I usually get sort of sad because I realize that you can’t do bun or crown braid hairstyle with super short hair, so I’ll grow it back out. Because of this, I figured that winter is the best time to have short hair. In the cold winter weather, you usually wear hats to keep warm, so you can’t have crown braids (and will probably have to fix your hair anyway).
In a semi-related blog note, I am totally obsessed with these sorel boots. They’re perfect for keeping your leg toasty warm in the winter (I didn’t even need to wear tights) and they’re super comfortable so you can walk for miles in them.
Hollow
November 17, 2015I’m adjusting to the cooler temperatures. Minne has had an unusually warm autumn and I’ve been loving it BUT like all good things this perfect weather wasn’t meant to last… time to bust out the chunky knits and jackets.
Have a wonderful week!
Camo Freak of Nature
November 12, 2015This is it folks, prepare for the end of the world, global warming is here! AAAAACCKKK!
Just kidding! Sort of… Weird weather patterns like we had in New York last week just always skeeves me out. It’s November and the thick fleece-lined jacket is tucked safely in my coat closet — the weather is still way too warm for it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice and all. But freakishly warm weather, combined with global warming warnings that’s going around, has got your girl all paranoid that I should be prepping for the inevitable. Well at least I’m covered from a fashion perspective. All thanks to my Nasty Gal Boot Camp jacket, which has adjustable rolled up sleeves and back slit that accommodate multiple temperature and weather changes. Not only is it awesome since you can wear more of it throughout the year, there’s another bonus point: camo goes with pretty much any color. So this jacket truly is a versatile wear.
Welp, the weather is cooling down more now, so I guess I’ll stop freaking out. But seriously people, we should do more stuff to reduce our carbon footprint and help mother earth. Because I don’t think I’m rich enough to afford a ticket on noah’s arc ☺.

November 6, 2015

That Chunky Sweater Dress
November 5, 2015Sometimes a shapeless chunky sweater dress can be the chicest thing ever, especially when paired with high heel hiking boots. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got no problem with the “no pain no gain” attitude when it comes to fashion. Many times I’ve had to spend all day sucking my stomach in a body con dress, or patching my poor foot in bandages so it can last a few more hours in the sky high stilettos. But days like today I’m thankful to be looking good in something warm, cozy and comfortable. And on top of that since there’s a lot of “room” in the dress, I can enjoy a big lunch and look ever as chic afterwards.
Orange You Glad
November 3, 2015I swear I didn’t plan this outfit as a post-halloween orange, nor am I going for a pumpkin Fall theme. But it just ended up working out that way :)
Oh So Fuzzy
November 2, 2015If you guys are like me, you get overly excited and buy a lot of your winter and fall gear before the weather even gets cold. Then you wait in anticipation for the temperature to drop so you can pack on the layers. If you’re terrible like me, sometimes you might also forget that cold weather gear you got more than a month ago (does this mean I have too many clothes?). “Found” clothes like this are a good thing on my book, because it gives me the feeling that you got new clothes for free.

Corn Field
October 29, 2015We finally made it out to one of the pumpkin picking apple orchards this past weekend. I was excited to eat a bunch of apple donuts, drink cider and get lost in the corn maze. Yay for autumn activities!
Chunk It Up!
October 28, 2015What’s better than chunky knits for fall? Now that it’s starting to get cold, I’m super excited to bust out all the cold weather gear. This cardigan from Lulu’s is not only super soft but surprisingly very warm as well. Although that warmth is a double edge sword since the last time I wore this I got a little bit too much of it. What is it about office building that makes them have internal temperatures that’s the exact opposite of what’s outside. I guess they just love to see you to freeze in your summer dresses and sweat in your fall cardigans. Luckily I’ve prepared for this and layered a Byer CA tank underneath my coverups. So when I get to the office I just slip out of the cardigan to keep myself from overheating. Because, you know, glistening sweat is not a cool look for meetings. Anybody else always having temperature issues at work?
October
October 27, 2015October has always been my favorite time of the year. I love when all the leaves change colors, apple cider drinks, pumpkin pastries, and of course Halloween. I’m sad this month is coming to a close already AND I’m not nearly ready for all the Holidaze yet. I need a repeat of the month… who’s with me?!?
London Baby
October 23, 2015Sharing a few snaps of our recent trip to London town. It was so much fun, we were lucky with the weather (not too much rain). Both Gita and I can’t wait to go back again!
Black Watch
October 21, 2015With all the cute floof (sheep) running around you could not – or rather I could not – leave Scotland without a cashmere scarf. Going from store to store it was fun to see the different tartan prints and learn the names. The black watch print (pictured above) has always been a favorite. I just always referred to it as ‘tartan’ or ‘plaid’ until I got schooled. The prices were a little steep, but taking into consideration that I would pay double at a department store, it was worth it. If I have any regrets it’s NOT picking up another stole in the stewart gray print (sad face). Le sigh, live and learn.
