Scotland

October 19, 2015

Finally getting around to editing the photos from our trip to Scotland. Despite the rainy/cloudy days we encountered, the country side and cities were all beautiful. That old world architecture made it feel as if we were all walking around in a dream world. The beer, food, and tartan had me addicted! A week just wasn’t enough — I’m having withdrawals. Can’t wait to visit again!

Topshop Judo Wrap Jumpsuit

Tell me if this ever happened to you guys too… You walk into Topshop, whose windows are adorned with giant photos of Cara Delvigne looking majorly rad in their latest style. Of course you’re super excited to get that outfit she’s wearing (I mean who doesn’t want to look like Cara). Then fast forward a half-hour later at the dressing room and you’re thinking: what the what, this dress is actually super unflattering on a regular person (and you look nothing like Cara at all). Well maybe it’s because I’m almost a full foot shorter than her, but still!
Since that’s my experience most times I go to Topshop I always get super giddy excited when I find things that fit me really well, like this judo wrap jumpsuit. Not only does it fit great and makes my booty look good, I don’t even have to alter the pant legs (a rarity for a 4’11” shorty like myself). I may not be the splitting image of Cara, but I sure do feel as good as she looks.

White After Labor Day

September 30, 2015

SheInside White Lapel Asymmetric Zipper Dress

Truth be told when I got this dress from SheInside it didn’t even dawn on me what date it was. It wasn’t until after I received it when the realization came: holy jeebus it’s after Labor Day and the dress is all white. But whatever, rules are meant to be broken and especially one as silly as abstaining from a particular color for a good chunk of the year. I mean who actually follows this antiquated rule, am I right?

All this thought about wearing white after Labor Day got me curious: where did the silly little rule come from? After a quick internet search, turns out there’s not one answer. I found the rule blamed everything from the sensibility of not wearing white during possibly muddy fall weather to the ridiculousness of being able to tell the rich people apart (who obviously would know the rule). See I told you the rule was dumb.

NYFW Recap: Daniel Silverstain Spring Summer 2016

September 25, 2015

I’ve only recently discovered Daniel Silverstain this past summer but I’m already quickly going gaga over his work. His Spring Summer 2016 collection is easily one of my top favorites from this past New York Fashion Week.

Inspiration for the SS16 collection is drawn from the impressive dimensions of modern decors and innovative architecture that reshaped the city of Montreal. The color pallet of the season is built on neutral hues with contrast shapes of primary colors, representing national flags. Lace and crochet textiles are coated in metallic gloss, and intricate multi-yarn jacquards are mixed with natural wovens – creating soft and relaxed silhouettes.

Daniel Silverstain Neo-Mesh T-shirt

I’m finally posting the last of my New York Fashion Week outfit! When you’re planning all the NYFW shows you’re going to go to a month or so before, everything seems so peachy keen. I’m so excited and cannot wait for fashion week to come. A day that starts with 10am show and ends with 7pm show followed by an after party? Sounds amazing! Juggling a full time job along with your blog so your planned day consist of going to early runway shows before you head to work, sneaking out at lunch for a quick presentation, then heading out to more shows after work is done? I can do that! Well fast forward to the tail end of NYFW, I am completely exhausted and a little less doe eyed as I was at the start of the week. So for my day 6 outfit I wanted to wear something comfortable, with still a bit of an edge to it — but nothing too crazy since I still had to go to work before the shows. This neo-mesh t-shirt from Daniel Silverstain exactly fits the bill. The structured material of the shirt may look stiff, but it is actually comfy and moves very easily.

A Crop and a Mini

September 17, 2015

Topshop Ribbed Cut-Out Crop Top

During fashion week, I’m always sketchy about wearing too much black, lest I get mistaken for PR folks. Going to fashion events clad in all black is basically akin to walking into target in red top and khakis — you’re just asking for awkward questions. Truth be told, this isn’t the exact outfit I had planned for day 4 of NYFW. Well the blue top I originally was going to pair with this skirt didn’t quite work out, so a girl’s gotta improvise a replacement. Then it dawned on me after I put the pair together: dag nabbit, I’m in all black. So to counter the effect I made sure to accessorize to death with a bold stand-out-red Marc Jacobs bag and sky high lita cat tapestry heels. Just in case that wasn’t enough, I added a borderline obnoxious minnie double sock-bun. What do you guys think of the combo?

Nasty Gal Side to Side Cutout Dress

I found this Nasty Gal dress on my Santa Monica trip. I’ve shopped at the online store before, but I found that sometimes their sizes don’t fit me correctly. So I was super excited to find that they have a couple of brick and mortar stores in L.A. As soon as I saw this dress, I knew it was going to go home with me. It made the perfect NYFW dress since it doesn’t wrinkle easily, and even stood battering of the evening rain shower.

Polka Dot To The Max

August 19, 2015

Shabby Apple Venicia Skirt

When you think of blue and white polka dots as a pattern, elegant doesn’t typically come to mind as a descriptor. Usually you see this pattern on casual wear or kitchen towels. So I was really intrigued when I found it paired with a structured maxi skirt. The resulting juxtaposition is an interesting mix of polished casual with a tinge of sophisticated elegance. You can pair it down with a crop top for an elevated casual look. Or pair it with a crisp button up for a business wear that’s worthy of an important client meeting. Needless to say this polka dot maxi skirt from Shabby Apple is a new favorite.

If you’ve never heard of Shabby Apple, you really need to check them out. They’ve got a great collection of skirts, dresses, and more. I love the simple lines and fun feminine flair of their designs.

Governors Island, Part 2

August 12, 2015

Nu New York Zipper front denim overalls

I was super excited to recently discover that there is a ferry going straight to Sandy Hook beach leaving from 35th St pier, which means I basically have (semi) direct access to the beach. So past weekend I had big plans, imagining myself laying out on the beach all slathered in SPF 50. Well too bad that the Seastreak ferry website listed the wrong pick up time, so I missed the last morning ferry. Womp womp…

Thankfully I live in a city with tons of daytime excursion options. So we went for plan B instead: Governors Island. Last time I visited the island I felt hurried since I went rather late. This time, since the original plan was to go out to the beach in the early morning, I had the whole day to my disposal. So this visit is was very leisurely in comparison. Hubby and I had a great time moving slowly through the island, enjoying views of the city and Statue of Liberty, picnicking on the lawn, and we even had time to visit historic monuments like the Castle Williams.

Greenpoint

August 11, 2015

Madewell Clip-on Frame Sunglasses

A couple of weekends ago, I finally got to go to Selamat Pagi, an Indonesian restaurant in Greenpoint that I’ve been meaning to visit. Indonesian food is not super common, even in a über diverse city like New York, so it was a rare treat. It was already a day filled with food adventure (my favorite kind) as a group of friends and I had gone on a food tour earlier that morning. The tour was focused on learning about the different immigrant groups of New York and tasting their foods, so I thought why not add another late lunch food tasting to top it off. What can I say, your girl loves to eat!
