Street Style

July 29, 2013

I recently shrunk (EEK) my fav grandpa sweater in the dryer. It was an extremely sad day, and since then I’ve been searching for a replacement. Lucky for moi, NSale (Nordstrom sale) had this baby, which is pretty much the perfect replacement. I wore it out to brunch today since the temp was in the 70s, CRAZY. Yay for finding great deals!

Outfit Combo: top: Nordstrom faux leather trim topper and H&M tee, bottom: Zara, bag: Alexander McQueen skull fold over clutch, and shoes: adidas amberlight sneakers

Recipe: Fesenjan

July 19, 2013

Fesenjan is usually a chicken dish with a thick stew-textured sauce that you serve over rice. It is traditionally made with chicken breast, but because I LOVE dark meat (so does lil man), I updated the recipe to be less stew-like and go with whole chicken legs!

(Urban) Jungle Explorer

July 16, 2013

When I walked out the closet in this outfit, my hubby said that I look like an archeologist who’s about the explore the jungle. Well maybe the urban jungle, because I doubt I’ll last 5 minutes out in the rainforest in these Stuart Weitzman sandals! The only piece of my outfit that I think would survive is probably my milkmaid braids. I have been obsessed with braided hairdos this summer, since the sweltering humid weather has made it unbearable to have my hair down.

Outfit Combo: chambray shirt from Lark & Wolff By Steven Alan (find similar here and here), shorts from American Apparel, sandals from Stuart Weitzman, bracelet from Gorjana & Griffin, necklace from Sigal.

Flower Girl

July 2, 2013

My printed Uniqlo dress has been my go-to lazy girl weekend uniform. I love not just the hypnotic flower print, but how effortless the dress is. Its stretchy a.k.a. very forgiving on those Sundays you overdo brunch, and best part of the dress is that it comes with a built in bra. Love love love it!

Outfit Combo: dress from Uniqlo, thrifted bag, sandals from Pour La Victoire, .

Recipe: Bibim Gooksu

June 30, 2013

Bibim Gooksu (spicy mixed noodles) is one of my go-to recipes on a warm summer afternoon. The noodles are served cold, which is NICE. And in my version the spicy gochujang coupled with peach and frozen grapes provides this refreshing crunch with a kick in every bite, YUM!

I Heart Colors

June 26, 2013

I once walked by a tourist who made the comment that New Yorkers seem to wear all black. I’ve only lived here less than a year and definitely do not count as a “native”, but I’m pretty sure this is a myth. At the very least, this is untrue in the summer time. Either way, my brown-self loves and craves color. So even if there is some truth to this myth, I’m pretty sure don’t think I fall in that New Yorkers ☺.

Outfit Combo: tank from Soprano (find similar here and here), blazer from Nasty Gal, jeans from Uniqlo, boots from Dolce Vita, sunglasses from Emporio Armani.

Boston Weekend Trip

June 18, 2013

This past weekend, my hubby and I made a short trip to Boston. It’s been over a decade since I last visited the city, which must explain why I remembered it incorrectly. For some reason, I thought of Boston as an uber bustling metropolis, very similar to New York City. But in actuality, Boston was a much quieter and less busy (in a good way) as compared to the big apple. I love the old world feel of the town and how much history it has. We did a considerable amount of “time travelling” through Boston’s Freedom Trail; my feet we’re so achy by the end of the day. I wonder how comfortable the shoes colonial Bostonians wore back then…

Outfit Combo: tank from Soprano (find similar here and here), skirt from Dorothy Perkins, sandals from BCBG Max Azria.

Recipe: Health(ier) Sugar Cookies

June 16, 2013

I LOVE a good sugar cookie — SERIOUSLY! I’ll even break down and buy a tub of grocery store sugar cookies on my FK (fat kid) days (don’t judge, you prolly do this too). Any-who the point is, I had to figure out a way to eat these goodies without feeling guilty. Throw in a little wheat flour, follow that up with some Greek yogurt (trendy!), top it all off with fruit and out comes something ya girl can work with.

Another NYC Visit

June 12, 2013

This past weekend we took lil man and my nephew to see Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark on broadway for their birthday! Yes, they have the same birthday, just one year apart — CRAZY! In addition to the show we went to Ninja New York with Auntie Gita, rode the Roosevelt Island Tramway, took Bear for a walk in Central Park, and ate a lot of nom food (FK fo life)! Can’t wait for the next trip in a few weeks.

Outfit One: top: Alexander McQueen ‘Skull’ scarf, Bitten by SJP denim vest (old, similar here and here), Asos dress, shoes: Vans neon sneaker, tote: Henri Bendel (puppy sold separately), sunnies: Ray-Ban Aviators

Outfit Two: top: Zara scarf, Splendid tee (similar), bottom: Joe’s Jeans distressed shorts (similar), shoes: Vans neon sneaker, sunnies: Ray-Ban Aviators

RE:Purpose

June 11, 2013

In an effort to shop less and save money, I’ve been trying to re-purpose and find new ways to wear clothes I already have. Take my über-versatile Marc Jacobs swimsuit cover up, for example. It can be worn as a cover up, a sun dress, or as a super high waisted skirt as I’ve done in today’s blog.
I actually found this combo by accident. I wanted to wear my Madewell denim vest as a buttoned up shirt (over the dress), which ended up covering up the graphic. The easy solution to this problem was of course to pull the dress down and turn it into a skirt. Best part about this outfit? I just love the sexy “peek” in the back of the dress that would’ve otherwise also been covered by the vest.

Outfit Combo: dress/skirt from Marc Jacobs, top/vest from Madewell and heeled sandals from Stuart Weitzman.

Recipe: Mini Kebab Sliders

June 9, 2013

Kebab is probably one of the most popular Persian dishes. You pretty much see it on the menu in every middle eastern restaurant served with rice and salad. We make this at our house a lot, especially during summer! To mix things up a little bit I decided make these babies into mini sliders. Fun for a summer party or dinner with lil man and husby.

These Square Chains

June 6, 2013

When I wake up late need and to dress in a hurry, such was the case yesterday, nothing beats the easy combo of plain tee and high-waisted twill pants. Of course, you gotta spice it up with a bit of chunky jewelry — we don’t want to be too plain.

Outfit Combo: tank from Soprano (find similar here and here), pants from American Apparel, shoes from Christian Louboutin (find similar here and here), necklace from Langford Market.

Review: Kiehl’s BB Cream

June 4, 2013

Most days, especially on the weekend, I prefer to go sans-makeup. Unfortunately, my bad habits of picking on my face has left me with some acne scarring. Thank goodness for Kiehl’s BB Cream for coming to the rescue! This recent addition to my Can’t Live Without list is a tinted moisturizer that provides great coverage and gives you the added benefits of correcting your skin tone. How? It contains Vitamin C, known for its powerful clarifying action, and has SPF50 to protect you from future skin damage.

BB Cream gives me the just the right amount of coverage. And since it’s basically a moisturizer, it feels natural and doesn’t “cake” on my face. To prove my point, I’ll even let you see me without make up (eeek)!

Tiger Stripes, Part Deux

May 29, 2013

I guess this post and Jess’s original tiger stripes post makes it pretty obvi that we’re huge fans of graphic tops from ZARA, especially when it features a certain giant cat.
I was hoping to wear this tank sans-cardigan, but Sunday’s weather was a bit nippy (even though it was plenty sunny). The weatherman must have missed the memo that I wanted memorial day weekend to be both sunny and warm!

Outfit Combo: cropped top from ZARA, skirt from Dorothy Perkins, sunglasses from Proenza Schouler, cardigan from Banana Republic, bag from Botkier.

Recipe: KFC (Korean Fried Chicken)

May 26, 2013

My absolute FAV food in the world has to be the fried chicken. KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) is a little bit different from the American version, because — are you ready for this, it is FRIED not once BUT twice! So TOTALLY FK!!???! My first experience with KFC was when I was a kid living in Korea. My family would go to the different chains for lunch! Since then, this deliciousness has been on the menu at least once a month. Finger licking goodness and only half the calories.
