Inauguration 2013

January 21, 2013

We made it to DC just in time for the 57th Presidential Inauguration — whoop whoop!?!!! And although we weren’t brave enough to actually stand outside today or make 800,000 new friends, husby and I did scope out the setup yesterday and took these pictures of places where we would have stood. Right now, I’m on the couch ready to watch Beyonce sing the national anthem.

Bye Bye KC

January 17, 2013

This is a bitter-sweet blog entry. Having relocated to the East Coast, I already miss Kansas City. Gettin’ a little emotional just thinking about it. I got engaged here, worked with the KCFW group, M&C was featured on TV, Monchichi was adopted here, met some really amazing bloggers, models an designers, and made some lifetime friends (you know who you are!). Kansas City was good to me; actually it was Great to me. I will miss you, your trafficless roads, and all my homies!

Outfit Combo: jacket: All Saints (similar), sweater: Forever 21, scarf: Emilio Pucci ‘Evoluzioni’, jeans: Joe’s Jeans (similar), booties: Giuseppe Zanotti

Black and Brown

January 16, 2013

There was a break in the weather this weekend, so I was able to wear less layers. Although it was nice to get a break from wearing gloves and thick jackets for a few days, it felt a bit weird. The weather was a lot warmer than I thought it should ever be in January.
I’ve heard that ever since the early 1980’s, every winter has been the warmest winter on record. I’m not really sure if this statement is true facts or just urban legend. But I did notice that New York has gotten very little snow this winter and it’s never cold enough for the snow to stick. Uh oh, global warming?

Outfit Combo: bra top from Brandi Melville (find similar here and here), jacket from H&M, skirt from Forever 21, hat from Uniqlo, necklace from Forever 21, heels from Valentino.

Camo Bear

January 9, 2013

Love the camo look; but a lot of these jackets right now are either too expensive, or made of cheap materials (boo). Lucky for me I have some old military buddies who are still serving our great nation, which means free gently (an understatement) used camos for me. Shout out to my girl Bernie, for sending this jacket to me and protecting our freedom!

Outfit Combo: ABU jacket: thanks Bernie!, sweater: Forever 21, jeans: Joe’s Jeans, booties: Giuseppe Zanotti

Prep School Uniform Chic

January 8, 2013

It has been a ages since I’ve worn uniforms, but it was a part of my daily life for a good 10+ years. Although I’m very glad those days are long gone, I must say there is an appeal to uniforms. At least you don’t have to fret about what you’re going to wear everyday.
These days, even though I’m not required to wear uniform, I still like to don “uniform inspired” outfits when the mood strikes.

Did you guys wear uniforms through primary school?

Outfit Combo: blazer from Gap, shirt from Banana Republic, skirt from Urban Outfitters (find similar here and here), tights from Uniqlo, boots from Rag & Bone, beanie from Gap (find similar here and here).

Sisters On The Roof

January 3, 2013

I do love New York City, but I won’t lie: I often get jealous of my sister’s Los Angeles weather. To make matter’s worse, most of my clothes are geared towards super hot weather, since I recently moved from Texas. You don’t really need thick sweaters and coats when the extent of your winter outdoors activity is walking from your door to the car. So what’s a girl to do? My cash can only go so far in buying new winter gear.

The answer, of course, is to reuse my summer clothes and layer the heck out of them! I started off with a spaghetti strap dress, which sounds super crazy for winter wear (not if you layer Uniqlo’s awesome heattech tights underneath). Then I pile on more layers on top: sheer maxi skirt, scarf, and cardigan. I probably could stop layering there if this was early Fall. But since Winter is full effect, I finished off the outfit by borrowing my sister’s parka.
What do you guys think of my summer to winter outfit?

Peeling the layers: parka from Zara (find similar here and here), cardigan from Aerie (find similar here and here), scarf from Madewell, skirt from American Apparel, dress from American Apparel, tights from Uniqlo, shoes from Rag & Bone, bangles from Ann Taylor.

As some of you may know, half of Mimi & Chichi is based out of New York City, so we are very familiar with the woes that came with Hurricane Sandy. Soho Sunday

December 26, 2012

NYC weather has been gray lately, so when we got a bit of sun last Sunday, I knew we had to get out and enjoy it. Even if it means braving the crowd two days before Christmas.
My sissy and I ventured to SoHo to find a Uniqlo store, where we were told we can find heattech (aka heat generating clothing). Sounds too good to be true, right? Well I picked up three pairs of heattech tights and I feel a review blog coming soon. ☺

Outfit Combo: parka from Banana Republic, beanie from Gap (find similar here and here), sweater from Forever 21, shirt from Gap, bowtie from H&M (find similar here and here), jeans from Paige Premium Denim, shoes from Steven by Steve Madden, cross body bag from Matt&Nat.
