Accordion Pleats To The Max!

April 19, 2012

Maxi skirts has been popular and back in style for quite awhile now, so I guess it’s no surprise that maxi pants are up next on the back-in-trend list.

Do these pants ever make you think that they are actually ‘maxi skirts in disguise as pants’? Or maybe it’s the other way around?

Well I was nerdy curious enough to look up the history of these pants on Wikipedia and I found some rather interesting wiki-facts. Maxi pants, also known as palazzo trousers, first became popular in the late 1960 as a way for women to circumvent restaurant dress codes. Apparently at that time, some restaurant owners were stuck up enough to refuse to admit women wearing trousers. Wow! Haters to the left!

Well I have no need to circumvent any restaurant dress codes, but I am still glad these pants are back in style.

Outfit Combo: accordion-pleat pant from American Apparel, striped bodysuit from American Apparel, envelope clutch from ASOS.

My Pretty Little Valentino

April 17, 2012

I’m finally posting my first blog outfit that features my pretty little Valentino. You better believe that I’m super excited to be debuting my new baby!

The Valentino crossbody bag has already become one of my favorite purses — there’s no buyers remorse here. The bag’s chain strap is adjustable, allowing you to single, double, or even triple loop the strap. This versatility means that there are endless possibilities for how you can wear the bag. A friend of mine even suggested that I may be able to wear it as a belt purse!

Outfit Combo: Rock Lock crossbody bag from Valentino, fitted non-iron shirt from Banana Republic, suspenders from H&M, skirt from Urban Outfitters (find similar here and here), open clic 120 patent-leather pumps from Christian Louboutin (find similar here and here).

My Three Favorite Lipsticks

April 13, 2012

I don’t know why it took me this long, but I’ve decided I’m done with cheap-o lipsticks. Every time I try to buy cheaper lipstick in order to save money, the plan ends up backfiring on me. Cheap lipstick either feels weird and waxy, tastes funny, has color that doesn’t last very long, or all of the above.

So what happens? I end up throwing the lipstick away after only using it a few time — I might as well throw the $10 bill straight into the trash can.

A few months ago I decided to buy the Chanel Rouge Coco Hydrating Creme Lip Color in “Gabrielle” on a whim. It is now my new favorite color and will probably be the first lipstick I don’t throw away before it’s used up. After this experience, I’m convinced that with lipstick you really do get what you pay for. Here are my top three favorite picks:

Revenge Of The Nerds!

April 11, 2012

I found these lucite glasses when I went shopping recently at American Apparel and knew immediately that they were a ‘must buy’. It was probably the geek in me that made me fall for them. I’m really excited about these glasses because I’ve been getting all sorts of nerdy fashion inspirations from them!

Whenever I wear the lucite glasses, I get really strong reactions and reviews, both positive and negative. But who cares — I love them! Plus what’s the purpose of fashion, if not to get a reaction, right?

Outfit Combo: lucite glasses from American Apparel, short sleeve button-up shirt from American Apparel, polkadot bow tie from H&M (find similar here and here), suspenders from H&M, skinny jeans from Levi’s, Axcent ankle boot from STEVEN by Steve Madden.

Saks Shopping Party

April 9, 2012

What make-up techniques did we learn and loot we left Saks with? Read on to find out…

Nail Design Tutorial: Bunny Nails for Easter

April 6, 2012

I was trying to think of what nail design to do for this weekend and I had been playing around with doing a reverse french mancure. For those of you not familiar with ‘reverse frech’, it’s done by painting the bottom of your nails white (instead of the tip of your nails like a regular french).

Then I thought: hmmmmm, if I put two lines on top of a reverse french manicure, won’t that look like a bunny? So that’s where the the whole idea for this bunny nails came from!

Under The Shadow Of The Tree

March 28, 2012

What is going on Texas? It’s only the end of March and temperature’s hitting mid 80s already? The heat’s enough for a girl to look shelter under a tree — or maybe even jump in the water (note to self: need to plan river tubing trip soon).

Oh well, at least the weather is warm enough for me to bust out the Keepsake Letters dress I got from Mod Cloth. This baby hasn’t seen the sun for quite awhile!

Outfit Combo: Keepsake Letters dress from Mod Cloth, thrifted belt (find similar here and here), Gladly platform sandals from Stuart Weitzman (find similar here and here)

Belt Purse or Fanny Pack?

March 23, 2012

It doesn’t matter if you call it belt purse or fanny pack. All I know is, once upon a time I wouldn’t be caught dead in one. But fanny packs are no longer reserved for gaudy asian tourists. Check out this collection of super stylish belt purses fanny packs that are making me re-think my decision not to ever wear them ^_^

My Mum Makes Me Dress This Way

Tutu and Chanel

March 13, 2012

Okay I’ll admit it, I am a bit tutu-obsessed — because here it is again! And, of course, once again I have to do the obligatory jump pose. What’s the point of wearing a tutu if you’re not going to prance and jump around, right?

And what goes better with my pink tutu, more than my Chanel flap bag? My favorite part about this bag is the really intriguing pink to white hand-painted color effect. Despite appearances, this über-girly bag is surprisingly versatile and can be worn many different ways. It goes perfect paired with a prissy outfit (translation: the rich bitch look). Or, sometimes I use it to tone down and ‘feminine-ize’ a hard look.

Well there’s nothing hard about tutus and pink Chanels. As a matter of fact, it’s probably the embodiment of girly-ness. So this kinda went the other way around haha… To toughen up the look, I added a denim vest and pair of flat black boots to the outfit combo.

Outfit Combo: Longroad denim vest from Madewell, pink cami from Banana Republic (find similar here and here), skull necklace from Brandy Melville (find similar here and here), Multi-Layered Reversible Petticoat from American Apparel, hand-painted lambskin flap bag from Chanel, boots from Gap.

Oldie but Goodie

March 12, 2012

Ever since Gita and I started blogging in our spare time, I take hundreds of photos. Grocery shopping, snap-snap! Eating out, pose! Hanging out at a museum, photo time. This weekend was a bit of disappointment, it rained all day and all night. As a result, I decided to work on a video and didn’t get a lot of blog pictures in. So — I’m kickin’ it back to the old school with this look from last month that I never posted. As you can see from the pictures, one of my favorite things to do when it is cold outside is mix up my jeans with colored tights. I love wearing colored tights with shorts, rolled up jeans and ripped jeans It adds that extra element of fun, which is sometimes hard to do when you are a mom. That’s all I got for today, stay classy!

Outfit Combo: shirt: H&M & J. Crew, jacket: Zara (kids section), jeans: Joes Jeans, tights: Target similar, shoes: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Preppy in Bow Tie and Wool Shorts

March 7, 2012

I have been seeing ALOT of pastels in fashion blogging world lately. Don’t get it twisted, I have nothing against pastels—but your girl just loves bold colors too much. Every time I try to minimize my outfit color pallette, I find myself reaching for that bright yellow pump or fiery red lipstick. So to take the anti-minimalist approach a step further, I am mixing multiple prints along with vibrant mustard yellow. I think it’s just the right amount of obnoxious :)

Outfit Combo: topnote cardigan from Madewell, plaid short sleeve button-Up shirt from American Apparel, polkadot bow tie from H&M (find similar here and here), cuffed wool herringbone shorts from Old Navy (find similar here and here), ‘Misha’ convertible backpack from Botkier, Prop pump from Jeffrey Campbell (find similar here and here).
