As part of my “See Your City” adventure, I visited Governors Island this past weekend. I can’t believe I’ve lived here a few years and have just now gone there, especially considering it was only a super short ferry ride away. Me being my slowpoke self, of course didn’t get there until late in the afternoon. So we only had a couple of hours of sillyness on bikes. I’m definitely planning on coming back and with better planning this time so I get there earlier and have more time to spend. There are surprisingly tons to do there: from biking, enjoying the food cart fare and art installation, to getting a history lesson at Colonel’s row.
If you have plans on visiting New York City, you definitely should add this to your itinerary. It’s one of those spots that not many tourist knows about. Plus the ferry ride from Battery Park is only $2, and you can get a kick ass view of the city and Statue of Liberty from there. That’s so much better than paying $30 for the mega crowded tourist boat, right?
