It’s a Beetle’s Life

March 1, 2012

I can’t really say I’m a fan of beetles (or really any kind of bugs for that matter). But I just love this sheer beetle printed blouse from Zara. The color of the prints are so vibrant. I loved them so much that I bought the blouse in two different color—so be on the lookout for another blog post with me wearing a similar shirt in navy.

I think this will be the only time I won’t freak out to have a bug on me LOL.

Outfit Combo: sheer printed blouse from Zara, micro-poly hight waisted pleat pant from American Apparel, leather toggle belt from American Apparel, open clic 120 patent-leather pumps from Christian Louboutin (similar), clutch from Chanel.

Fashion Show & Interview

February 27, 2012

Fashion Show & Interview

We had a great deal of excitement this past weekend. In addition to all the fashion shows, my friend Kim (of kimberlyloc) and I were interviewed by the wonderful Terra Hall from Fox 4 News. Ms. Hall, intrigued by the emergence of local talent at the recent Kansas City Fashion Week, shadowed us for a few hours as Kim and I snapped a few blog photos at a local venue. Later, we sat down one on one and shared our thoughts on the future of fashion and what trends we are excited for in 2012. All in all, it was a great weekend and hopefully a sign of better things to come!

Check out our interview here.

Outfit Combo: scarf: Alexander McQueen similar, shirt: H&M, blazer: Zara similar, jeans: Joe’s Jeans and shoes: Fendi

Kansas City Fashion Week

February 27, 2012

Kansas City Fashion Week
As we walked on the rep carpet to enter a secluded wide open space, filled with hundreds of seats surrounding a beautifully lit pearl white runway, we were ready to tweet the latest fashion ideas and share every amazing look on Instagram. No, this wasn’t MB Fashion Week in NY, but it certainly aspired to compete with the best and yet it managed to maintain true to its roots and midwest culture. As guests of Kansas City fashion week, Kim and I a chance to see and comment on some really unique and fashion forward runway looks made by over 20 upcoming and selfmade local designers. It was evident that they put their soul, passion, and stretched every inch of fabric to cover their models and tease the audience with their imaginations. After spending two days at the event, we witnessed some amazing designers: Watercolors High Fashion, BMDesigns, Haus Designs by Sierra Moses, Oblivion Clothing, Ola Style, christianMICHEAL and Evil Pawn Jewelry on Friday night. Then, Fermented Fruit by Eli Borrowman, Kalyn Valliere, Jamie Santomasso, Sushe by J. Tracey, Bridedoll by Caroline Williard, KMS Couture presents American Trash and House of Cochon on Saturday afternoon.

Fast forward to Spring!

February 24, 2012

Spring is almost here and the weather is slowly getting warmer. I know I’m going to be sorry saying this later when I’m frying in 100° Texas weather, but I’m actually looking forward to the increase in temperature. Mostly because I have some recent warm-weather clothing purcases that I’m dying to try out. So in an effort to persuade the weather gods to bring spring weather earlier, I decided to don my recently purchased floral blazer.

Nothing screams spring more than a blazer that looks like the florist shop threw up on it, right? Hahahaha…

Outfit Combo: blazer from Zara (similar), black dress from BCBG Max Azria (similar), opaque tights from Hue, Miss Dior shopper bag from Christian Dior (similar), Zippette bootie from Members Only.

The Infamous Monchichi (Chichi)

February 22, 2012

Monchichi
We often receive emails asking us about the meaning behind Mimi & Chichi. Wonder no more, Gita and I named it after our two lovable pets! Today, it’s Monchichi’s debute. He is a cute jet black pomeranian with an underbite and a heart made out of gold! We originally rescued him around Christmas in 2009. Unfortunately, Chichi was one of many abused dogs (mistreated at a puppy mil) and it was at that time when the thought of having this cute dog spend another day homeless, just wasn’t an option. This blog is for all the animal lovers, pet rescuers, fashionistas with pets, and anyone who enjoys company of animals like me and Gita!

P.S.
The other little rascal is our puppy, Bear. A.K.A. baby bear, chewy bear, [insert name here] bear featured here.

Outfit Combo: shirt: H&M, jacket: Zara (kids section), scarf: vintage similar, jeans: Nordstrom similar, shoes: Toms and bag: Fendi

Monochrome and Color Pop

February 21, 2012

I just love the monochromatic look (not to mention grey is one of my favorite color). But I won’t lie, wearing clothes all from the same color company can get really boring. So to spice it up and de-monochrome (yes I just made up a word) I add another one of my favorite color: red.

Outfit Combo: blazer from Zara, scoopneck shirt from H&M, jeans from Heritage 1981, Robert Jessica shoulder bag from Marc Jacobs (via Gilt), Perla suede pumps from Diane von Fustenberg (via Gilt), bow hair clip from American Apparel.

The Hunt for That Perfect Wedding Dress

February 20, 2012

Show Your Pets Love
It’s hunting season, for wedding dresses that is! My friend Heather (a.k.a. Geekette Bits) recently got engaged. So of course I volunteered to help her find a dress. Because what’s the point of having a fashion blogger friend, if she’s not going to help you shop, right? LOL.

My thoughts immediately go to the beautiful Monique Lhuillier Cecilia Dress (pictured above) or maybe an exquisite gown from Marchesa. But the price tag immediately brought me back down to earth, as Monique Lhuillier dresses can go for up to $20,000. I can’t have Heather spending her entire wedding budget on a dress! So what’s a girl to do when she doesn’t have A-Rod money to spend? I’ve devised two major guide tips in finding that perfect wedding dress without breaking the budget.

Recipe: Egg Rolls

February 17, 2012

Potluck Goodies
My husby had a potluck this week and asked if I could make some egg rolls for him to take in! Like most people in my family, I don’t really have a set recipe. It goes something like ‘add a little bit of this and some of that’. But, for those that need more specifics, follow the recipe below.

Stripes: The 80’s Party Version!

February 15, 2012

I love my newly purchased American Apparel bodysuit so much that I decided to do a second blog this week with it. On Monday’s blog, I paired the bodysuit with a tutu for a playful look. Today, I’m wearing the bodysuit with a pair of high waist twill pants for an 80’s inspired look. The ability for the bodysuit to jump from looks with a tutu to high waist twill pants just goes to show you how versatile it is.

It think it goes without saying that I’ll be going back to American Apparel for more bodysuits in various colors and sleeve lengths LOL.

Outfit Combo: Calvary Twill High-Waist Pleated Pant from American Apparel, Printed Cotton Spandex Jersey Double U-Neck Long Sleeve Bodysuit from American Apparel, Leather Toggle Belt from American Apparel, Laroux Denim Convertible Crossbody from Matt & Nat, Wing Earrings from Nasty Gal, Open Clic 120 Patent-Leather Pumps from Christian Louboutin (similar).

Tutu and Stripes

February 13, 2012

The tutu is back! It was friggin freezing out but I just bought this new bodysuit from American Apparel and I was dying to try it on with my tutu. So what the hell, weather be damned, I’m going to wear my tutu outfit.

Outfit Combo: Multi-Layered Reversible Petticoat from American Apparel, Printed Cotton Spandex Jersey Double U-Neck Long Sleeve Bodysuit from American Apparel, faux-leather jacket from Romeo & Juliet, mouse flats from Marc Jacobs.

Hanging out at Nelson-Atkins

February 3, 2012

It was so good to see my girls Jess and Jamie when I visited KC last weekend (go Wolfpack!). I was really worried that the weather would be unbearably cold in Kansas City, but it wasn’t so bad. With my trusted Botkier backpack and Steve Madden booties, I was ready to visit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Because you can’t enjoy art when your feet are suffering in high heel stilettos, haha!

Outfit Combo: plaid short sleeve button-Up shirt from American Apparel, sweater from Banana Republic, jeans from Heritage 1981, Misha convertible backpack from Botkier, Axcent ankle boot from Steven by Steve Madden.

I was told I look very much like a college student in this attire. Hmmm maybe this wardrobe will inspire me to go back and get my MBA.

School Girl

February 1, 2012

School Girl
Plaid + blazer + tights + knits = school girl (with an attitude). I’ve been in a funk lately. Do you ever walk into your closet and you’re like ‘I don’t have anything to wear.’ Exactly, that’s how I feel right now. So, I am doing something about it. I’m pulling my old pieces out to sell (and buy) at a local consignment shop. I was recently the lucky recipient of this chunky blue scarf that my Aunt knitted and I couldn’t help but to second guess a few pieces in my ‘sell’ pile. Funny how one new piece brings you out of a clothing funk.

Outfit Combo: blazer: Zara similar, shirt: J. Crew similar, scarf: Knitted by my Aunt, jeans: Joe’s Jeans, tights: We Love Colors, shoes: Melissa similar (gift from Gita) and bag: Fendi

Manicures with Kim

January 25, 2012

Manicures with Kim
I finally got around to sort and post a few of my favorite photos from my ‘manicure day with Kim’! Once I entered her pad, from the corner of my eyes, I spotted a few nail polishes across the room. What I didn’t expect was the fact that Kim has a jaw-dropping beauty product collection that could make a grown women cry. Seriously, this girl had her entire dinning room table covered in goodies (spillin’ onto the floor), I was in girly girl heaven. Shortly after finding my spot at her table, I swiftly conducted a usability session by selecting ten nail colors (trust me, wasn’t easy) and polishing each nail. I finally decided to use Fly from OPI’s Nicki Minaj collection. Then, I added some flare to my ring finger with Opal from Zoya’s Fleck Effect collection. Kim went with Bevin from Zoya’s Spring collection. The day was super fun and definitely going to have a sequel — I’m not done with my usability test of all her nail colors!

Embracing the Dark Side

January 24, 2012

I’m not usually one to wear super dark lipstick, but I was so inspired by fellow blogger and lookbooker Sierra‘s look that I decided to try it out. So I took my happy butt over to Neiman Marcus, looked at a few different option (Chanel had an awesome shade that was unfortunately discontinued), and settled on the Rouge d’Armani lipstick.

I am so happy that I decided to this out. Not only did I discover I that I love to embrace the “dark side”, I found my new favorite lipstick brand. The color in Rouge d’Armani acts almost as a lip stain. The color last and when it gradually fades, it leaves a very pretty stain on your lips.

Outfit Combo: shirt from Banana Republic, blazer from Banana Republic, jeans from Heritage 1981, Lita Booties from Jeffrey Campbell.

Color Outside the Lines

January 19, 2012

Hi friends! I’m Kim, from kimberlyloc.com, and I’m excited to share a colorful post with you today. Jess and I had a girly day and decided to get some pictures for our blogs in between manis and mimosas. Be sure to check me out on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram!
kimberlyloc

I love color, but for some reason, the majority of my wardrobe consists of black, white and gray. This year, I’m resolving to change that. On-trend colored jeans, bold accessories and punchy polish is helping me build a rainbow-bright closet and vanity that makes me smile every morning. Though black and white will always have a place in my wardrobe, I’m jazzing up my usual by selecting interesting patterns, textures and prints to bring a little va-va-voom to boring black and white. Case in point: Instead of pairing my new chevron-print dress with the typical black pleather leggings or dark blue denim, I chose a pop of purple to bring this outfit to life.

Outfit Combo: Banana Republic, Coat; Solemates Boutique, Van Buren, Arkansas, Chevron Dress; Forever 21, Purple Jeans; Nine West, Wedge Heels; Thrifted, Necklace; Handmade in St. Lucia, Earrings; Gift from Carolyn, Belt; Maude Boutique, Fayetteville, Arkansas, Raw Amethyst Ring

Bow Tie Cause

January 18, 2012

As most of you may know, I am obsessed with bowties, so I was really excited to find Bow Tie Cause. This non-profit organization, started by NFL linebacker Dhani Jones, partners with over 30 charitable different organization to support their cause.

I purchased the Boys Hope Girls Hope bow tie a few days ago and I can’t wait for it to come in the mail. What could be better than fashion with a cause? It’s fashion that looks good (and feels good too)!

Below is a few of my favorite bow ties from their collection that I’m eyeing. You can find the full collection of their bow ties and the charity organizations they support at BowTieCause.org.
