Free Month of Rocksbox Subscription

Rocksbox

I want to introduce you guys to a jewelry subscription service, called Rocksbox, that I’m crazy about. At first, I was a bit skeptical about this service. It’s all fine and great that I get access to all these awesome jewelry for $19. But I was put off by the idea of sending the jewelry back.

Then I looked at my jewelry wall and realized, there are so many pieces that I haven’t worn in quite some time—some I may have not even touched in more than a year. I’m probably not the only one that has bought statement jewelry out of impulse only to discover that either they don’t go with much of my closet, or that the statement doesn’t have the same power once the jewelry piece is worn multiple times. Wouldn’t it be great if you can still wear all the jewelry pieces you covet, but keep the ones you really love and use all the time? That’s what Rocksbox let you do.

So how does it work exactly? When you sign up, you fill out a survey that let’s Rocksbox know what kind of jewelry you’re into. You’ll then get a personalized pick of three jewelry items sent your way. If you’re tired of the pieces you have and want new ones, just simply send them back and you’ll three more sent your way. You also have the option to purchase any pieces that you absolutely love and not willing to part with and send back.

Intrigued? Well you’re in luck since we’re going to let you try out the service for free. Just make sure you enter the code mimiandchichixoxo when you check out.

Más de San Juan

May 13, 2015

It’s been a few days now since I’m back to reality, away from the soft sand and gorgeous beaches of Puerto Rico. Man I miss it and all I could think of is going back. Alas, it’ll will be a little while before I have the time off (and the cash) for another vacation. But doesn’t mean I can’t look fondly on vacay photo and reminisce on the good times. ☺

Criss Cross

May 12, 2015

Beautiful weather, lovely lake side views, creates the perfect photo setting — don’t you agree?!? Bear got a little crazy running through the sand, no fun for me thanks to her thick and curly hair. Which means ending my day with puppy bath time, le sigh!

Old San Juan

Lanston Cami Dress

¡Saludos de San Juan! It’s my last day here in Puerto Rico’s capital city and I’m feeling a bit sad about it. I knew the trip was going to be short (my hubby could only take Friday and Monday off), so I’ve been mentally preparing myself for it. But I guess it doesn’t really matter how long your vacation is, the last day is always bittersweet. In the four days that we’re here, we’re able to relax in the beach of Isla Verde and explored Old San Juan quite a bit. I’m really in love with the colorful architecture of Old San Juan, so much so it got me day dreaming which houses I would like to live in. This red painted house is definitely a contender. Awkwardly enough, the owner came home right as I was daydreaming/taking blog photos. BUSTED LOL! Thankfully, they we’re super nice and let me finish taking my photos.

On a semi-related side note, I heard that there are no property taxes in Puerto Rico. So basically once you pay off the house, there’s really no more payments to be made. What the whaaaaat?!? Oh yeah all sorts of retirement planning and property owning schemes entered my head as soon as I heard that.

Again and Again

Again and Again

Hope everyone is having a great Thursday… Hooray for it almost being the weekend! The other day I sent Gita a text asking her what she thought of this black shirt, her response: ‘didn’t you already wear that’ Ha, it’s true, I REALLY do own a lot of black. I mean, it’s not like I haven’t tried to branch out into other colors, I’m just at the point where I know what I like AND try purchasing clothing I will keep longer than one season.

In other news, you can really see the burgundy color in this light — YAY!

Casually Red

May 5, 2015

Let me share a money saving secret with you guys. I used to get in trouble with shopping emails that different retailers sent to me. Even though I didn’t have any plans to shop, sometimes I just can’t resist emails advertising 40% off (such a sucker I know). You would think the simple thing to do is to just unsubscribe altogether. But that’s not quite the way to go, since I still want to save money whenever I do shop. So I employed this trick I learned from my sister: create a gmail filter so that all shopping related email skip your inbox and go straight to a shopping folder. I don’t even bother looking at that folder unless I have money to spend.

Well last week the stars were all aligned. I had money to burn AND when I looked at the folder I discovered that Madewell sent me a coupon code for 40% extra off of already on sale items. Score! Needless to say I shopped quite a bit and got, among other things, this lovely slub v-neck pocket tee and the mcarren tote (I just love carry all bags).

The Force

All Eyez

All Eyes

This past weekend, we braved the crowded mall (GASP!) because I needed some new gym clothes. True to form, I got sidetracked and shopped for other things as well. I went into Urban Outfitters with the intention of getting a few pairs of work out leggings, and left with some graphic tees — they got me good! I would say that next time I’ll try and be more focused, but that would be a lie.

Does anyone else leave the store with more than what they intended to buy?

Camouflage in Minneapolis

April 29, 2015

I took a little trip Minneapolis last week, which is a tricky time to visit (weather wise). I know how cold the city can be, so I was grateful to be going after all the bad weather has passed. Or I thought so, until Jess informed me that it snowed last Tuesday. What the what, Minnie?!? Needless to say, I was a tad flabbergasted on how I’m supposed to pack for my trip. I finally decided on my light camo jacket. This jacket is a great transitional piece since it’s substantial enough to keep you warm. It also has a slit/hole in the back (which my husband thinks is a weird feature) that keeps me from over heating. My body temp typically runs on the warmer side, so I’m a fan of any feature that keeps me cool.

Owl Tee

My husband recently discovered a super cute tee shirt brand, Arka. Lucky for me, one of the shirts was too small on him so now it belongs to me. Don’t you just love when things work out like that!

Maxi Dress and Light Jacket

April 23, 2015

Gosh it feels so good when the weather gets nice enough to bust out a piece of clothing you haven’t worn in awhile. This cutout dress from Mono B is one that has stayed in my closet since last summer. The weather is not so warm that I can wear the dress on its own. But all is well because I’m loving the boho-chic vibe I get from the addition of the Zara jacket.

Racer

For those that follow us on Instagram, you probably already saw my hair struggle. Who knew that going from black to burgundy, or any color, would be such a hassle. I’m talking two appointments, lightening, dryer, etc., my hair resisting every step in the process. The burgundy finally took, unfortunately, you can only see it when the light catches. Le sigh! Struggles of having black hair.

In other news, I’m super in love with the dress over jeans trend! Who else is with me?

Hanging Out Tomboy

April 20, 2015

The weather this past weekend was so perfect in New York City. It’s the kind that’s bright and sunny, but not hot since the temperature is still on the cooler side and a gentle breeze rolls around every once in a while. This is my favorite kind of weather for dressing since it’s the kind that calls for light layering. For this look I decided to go a bit tomboy and borrow one of my hubby’s tie. He says I kind of look like I could be a member of Blue Brothers if I just switch up the hat. What do you think?

More Food

More Food

One of the places I was most excited to try while we were in Boston was Myers + Chang. They serve Dim Sum for brunch, but not in the traditional sense, i.e. the carts of dumplings and chicken feet. Their menu has options like: sweet + sour brussels sprouts, grilled corn with sriracha butter, fried egg banh mi, and nasi goreng. Basically a collection of different Asian dishes served on small plates. We ordered and ate as many items as we could without exploding, all of which were delicious. I will for sure return, if I’m ever back in Boston for a visit.

Boston Foodie

Boston Foodie

Gita and I are back from our Boston weekend. It should come as no surprise that our trip centered around food. What can I say, we just LOVE eating! In addition to finding a few places to eat via food and wine mag and local bloggers, we went on the Boston Foodie Tours as well. Although we did stick out as tourists, especially since we wore foodie tour stickers, it was a great way for us to find a few gems, AND taste the food they are famous for creating. Now that the weekend is over we’re back to eating healthy and hitting the gym, but no doubt we had fun pigging out and exploring the sights in Boston.
