Bootie Partie & $50 Nordstrom Gift Card Giveaway

September 29, 2014

Update: Congratulations to Sarah A. on winning this giveaway!
Win $50 gift card to Nordstrom

I feel like it’s been a long time since we had a giveaway here at Mimi & Chichi — way too long. So I thought: why not start this week off with a bang and have a Giveaway Monday? Fall is officially here, and that means that it’s time to refresh the boots section of your closet. And what better to help you with that than a $50 gift card to Nordstrom.

I’ve always been partial to the booties (may have something to do with my shortness). Knee-high boots or, heaven forbid, anything higher just swallows my legs and make me look even shorter. Thank god booties are so popular now that they have their own section in Nordstrom, my own personal online shoe heaven.

A Happy Accident

September 25, 2014

French Connection stevie knits PU jumper &amd; Topshop skirt

You ever walk around in heels all day – I’m talking a good eight hours – only to realize the next morning that you had planned to wear heels again?!?? It’s like ‘what was I thinking’

The bright side to this story is I had my sneakers with me and by happy coincidence they just happen to match my skirt! I just LOVE when things come together.

That Big Floppy Hat

September 24, 2014

H&M wool hat

I found this hat one of my recent shopping trips to H&M. Even though this hat was placed on the high rack, and well above the line of sight of my shorty pants, I was immediately draw to it. The shape and the bold color of the hat was exactly what I’m looking for: the perfect fall statement piece. Plus isn’t it a rule of fashion that every girl needs a big floppy hat (or something like that).

Outfit Combo: hat from H&M, accordion-pleat pants from American Apparel, pumps from Valentino, necklace from H&M, clemence minaudere clutch from Pour La Victoire.

NYFW Recap: Luis Antonio SS15 Collection

September 18, 2014

Luis Antonio Summer Spring 2015 Collection

Maritime themes were abound in Luis Antonio’s Spring Summer 2015 collection — you can see it in the coral inspired necklace, textures, and vibrant colorful prints. A native of San Juan, the designer was clearly drawing inspiration from his tropical homeland.

A Turban In The Crowd

September 17, 2014

H&M loose fit pants and sleeveless top

So in the last outfit post I was talking about how unseasonably hot it was during NYFW, which caused me to rethink a lot of the outfit I had already planned. Well the universe must have heard me complaining, because on Day 3 of NYFW, the humid heat was exacerbated with a nice sprinkling of rain. Rather than trying to fight nature with a plethora of anti-humidity cream to tame my frizz, I kinda just gave up and decided to cover it all up with a turban instead. But hey, that doesn’t mean I’m not gonna make it look good. It was fashion week, after all — having street photographers abound was a great motivation not too look bummy.

Outfit Combo: sleeveless top from H&M, loose fit pants from H&M, sandals from Kelsi Dagger, rock lock leopard-print calf hair crossbody bag from Valentino, necklace from Capwell + Co., naomi double ring from Kendra Scott.

NYFW: Stella Nolasco SS15 Collection

September 16, 2014

Stella Nolasco Summer Spring 2015 Collection

Two words come to mind when describing Stella Nolasco’s SS15 collection: sexy laces — there were sure plenty of it walking down her runway. Although she treads the line a bit with some pieces, it’s mostly a sophisticated kind of sexy that has a good amount of playful notes on it. Most people probably won’t go for the high-waist hot pants, but I can see her floor length lace gowns having a mass appeal. With the right kind of skin-toned undies, I daresay that the gowns will look flattering and sexy on most figures.

Leather and Leopards

September 15, 2014

H&M imitation leather skirt and sleeveless top

I totally did not expect the weather to be as hot as it was during NYFW. Consequently a lot of the outfits I had planned out for the week did not quite worked out as planned, and some improvisations had to be made. As the saying goes: when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. And this lemonade was sweet indeed since it gave me an excuse to make extra shopping trips to H&M.

Outfit Combo: sleeveless top from H&M, imitation leather skirt from H&M, joanna pump from Kelsi Dagger, rock lock leopard-print calf hair crossbody bag from Valentino, necklace from Kenneth Cole.

The Gilliegan Hat Challenge + Giveaway

August 29, 2014

Ellie Hayes Gilliegan Bucket Hat

Boy I can’t remember the last time I wore a bucket hat. Scratch that…I do remember. I was going to a watch basketball game in 9th grade, feeling like I’m the coolest kid around because I went to the game with my then-crush, who was a senior. And also, of course, because I had the coolest hat on (duh).

Motel Rocks Demelza Dress

I usually reserve hats for day-3 hairs, since it’s a classic fix up for days when you’re too busy or too lazy to wash your hair. So of course on a day when I have freshly coiffed hair, I pick an outfit that’s just begging for a hat. Oh well, sometimes you just gotta surrender to your accessories need and deal with the flat hair later.

Outfit Combo: demelza dress from Motel Rocks, denim chambray shirt from Lark & Wolff, hat from Obey, backpack from Deena & Ozzy, necklace from ModCloth, necklace from Madewell, boots from Dolce Vita.

Black and Gold

H&M textured skirt

I can’t think of a more classic color combo than black and gold, with a bold red lip to round it out.

Outfit Combo: textured skirt from H&M, top from Gap, ophelia pumps from Coach, duxbury clutch from Brahmin, necklace from ModCloth, headband from Banana Republic.

Mix of Print

August 14, 2014

Floral shorts again?!??!!? HECK YEA. These shorts are so comfy that I’ve been wearing them to run errands, meet friends for drinks, and even lounging on the couch. I really didn’t think I would be so obsessed, since I bought them to be my ‘fancy’ shorts. It just goes to show that you really never know how much you love a piece of clothing until you try it on and wear it out!

Outfit Combo: top: Asos, bottom: French Connection Genevieve print shorts, booties: Elizabeth and James (old), bag: Cole Haan Vestry mini cross body, and sunnies: Ray-Ban Original Aviators

Playing Professor

August 13, 2014

Ted Baker Lochus Satchel

For today’s look, I thought it would be fun to do a more tomboy look to contrast Monday’s girly-girl look. There’s two items in this outfit, the Ted Baker satchel and Zara bow tie, that I straight up bought at the men’s section of the store. Because, limiting yourself to just the women’s section is just boring.
I also love the academic feel that bow tie and satchel gives to look. Just call me Professor Gita in this outfit!

Outfit Combo: pleated crepe shorts J.Crew, button-up from American Apparel, bowtie from Zara, blazer from Zara, prop pumps from Jeffrey Campbell, lochus satchel from Ted Baker.

One Dress, Two Ways

August 12, 2014

One Dress Two Ways

I love versatile dresses, like this red swing dress from River Island, that acts as a blank palate for the rest of my outfit. Not only are they easy to style, because they go with virtually everything, they are also mega money savers for the same reason. They’re perfect for me since I do like to switch up my style every once in awhile, but I don’t necessarily want to break the bank doing it.

Which one is your fave go-to office look? Sporty or Glam?

Girly In Florals

August 11, 2014

Voodoo Vixen Finely Dress

I wouldn’t call myself a girly-girl, or at least not when it comes to dressing up. I probably borrow from my hubby’s side of the closet way too many times to be labeled that. But sometimes I figure, why not? It’s fun to go outside of your comfort zone a bit and try something you wouldn’t usually pick. For me that would be this Finley dress from Voodoo Vixen.
While floral prints are nothing new, the über feminine silhouette of this vintage-inspired dress definitely is. I must say: I don’t look half bad in this girly-girl outfit. What do you think?

Giveaway Friday: Buxom Mascara Bar

August 8, 2014

Update: Congratulations to Elisabeth G. on winning this giveaway!
Buxom Cosmetics Mascara Bar

So you found a great mascara formula that you love: it doesn’t smudge, it volumizes and nourishes your lashes. But too bad you don’t like the wand shape: it’s big and clunky, so you keep getting errant mascara on your eyelids. Has this ever happened to you? Or maybe you wish you can customize your “mascara coverage” for a demure daytime office look or a va-va-voom going out look.

Tribal Skirt

August 7, 2014

H&M patterned maxi skirt

I got this gorgeous skirt from H&M a few weeks ago. I went in exclusively for the purposes of getting swim trunks for the hubby, but got totally distracted by this gorgeous piece that was on the mannequin. Ugh, you got me good H&M!
It’s almost perfect with the exception of the length that’s a tad to long for my shorty-pants figure. Being my usual forgetful self, I keep forgetting to take it to the tailor to get hemmed. Thankfully for this day, my trusted high heel Loubis came to the rescue. I still have plans on shortening the length though, so it can be worn with flats and shorter heels. Because, lets keep it real, I’m not about to walk around NYC all day in my Loubis. Mega heel days are also known as expensive cab days in my book LOL.

Color Block

August 6, 2014

H&M Blazer and J.Crew Pleated Crepe Shorts

Although I’m a fan of prints and I’ll usually say yes even to the craziest of patterns, sometimes my dress-up is all about mixing solids. Color block FTW!

Outfit Combo: pleated crepe shorts J.Crew, blouse from Frenchi/em>, blazer from H&M, heels from Dolce & Gabbana, rockie crossbody bag from Alexander Wang.
