The Mix

March 6, 2014

I’ve worn this skirt several times since it’s original purchase, but kept it simple with a black tee and sweater. This time I decided to mix it up a little bit by adding this striped sweater on top. Gotta say I wasn’t sure about it at first, but it grew on me and now I love this look.

Outfit Combo: top: Theory sweater (similar here and here), knitted cowl neck scarf (made by my aunt — similar here) bottom: Asos plaid check skirt (on sale), booties: Elizabeth and James (similar here), and sunnies: Ray-Ban Aviators

The ‘Pies and Thighs’ Saturday

March 5, 2014

Ever since I moved to New York City, everyone has been telling me about this fried chicken joint in Williamsburg called Pies and Thighs. Some people have described it to me as the “best fried chicken” they’ve ever had. After living in the Big Apple for over a year-and-half, I finally got my butt over on the L train to try this place out. Actually, the L train was closed for maintenance that day, so we had to take a bit of a detour. On top of that debacle, we had quite a bit of wait when we got to the restaurant since it’s pretty popular.

On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink

February 26, 2014

Today’s outfit collage is an homage to one of my favorite movies. Can you guess what it is?
Because today is Wednesday — and everyone knows that you’re supposed to wear pink on Wednesdays, if you want to sit with us.
I mean that’s just, like, the rules of feminism!

Here are some pink goodies that will make you look super fetch this Wednesday.
(listed in clockwise order, starting from top left):
Faux Fur Blazer from River Island – $80
Skater Dress from Dorothy Perkins – $59
Zazou glitter-finished canvas brogues from Christian Louboutin – $795
Me-Yowza! iPhone 5/5S Case from Rifle Paper Co. – $31.99
Retro Rosie Earrings from Modcloth – $9.99
The Heroine mini from Alexander Mcqueen – $1,545

I heard of rumors swirling around that Tina Fey is working on a sequel, called Mean Mom. I wonder what crazy fashion rule that clique is going to have. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Do you have a favorite Mean Girls quote?

Velvet Crush

February 25, 2014

I wasn’t always a fan of velvet. Possibly it’s because the material usually conjures up images of either a 70s pimp (à la The Ladies Man) or one of those god-awful matching tracksuit sets. Late last year I decided to put aside my bias and try out the trend by buying a velvet skirt from American Apparel. I’ve been a velvet convert ever since! I recently acquired a few velvet dresses, this stretch babydoll dress being one of them.

In addition to the soft velvety material, I also love this dress because of its shape. It’s perfect for this time of the year (read: New York Restaurant Week). The dress’s forgiving silhouette is just what I need to hide my belly after a three-course dinner at Junoon. Ah the babydoll — it’s the eater’s best friend! LOL

Outfit Combo: strech velvet babydoll dress from American Apparel, tights from J.Crew, necklace vest from Avon, ‘Clemence Minaudiere’ clutch from Pour La Victorie, boots from Zara.

Snow Hoodie

What does one wear in the snow — one word LAYERS. Seriously, you don’t want to go outside without at least a few layers between the coldness and your skin. I can’t wait for the warmer weather to get here.

Outfit Combo: top: David Bowie tee via Asos (similar here), threads for thought hoodie, AllSaints Belvedere jacket, bottom: Zara jeans (similar here), boots: Vince Camuto (similar here), bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim ‘Pashli’, and sunnies: Ray-Ban Aviators

Emerald & TJ Maxx

February 20, 2014

So call me ignorant, but I had no idea that TJ Maxx carry luxury items. I have been to some that carry higher-end brands like BCBG or Betsey Johnson, but I would have never dream of finding the likes of Valentino and Prada at my humble local TJ Maxx. I’ve heard that the items in-stock in the store depends on the area that you live in, so I guess I’ve never lived anywhere nice enough☺.

Red Turban

February 18, 2014

I seriously can’t get enough of the turban hairstyle! Full confession, I was totally having a bad hair day and there was absolutely no way I could leave my hair down. But it’s cold out and how’s a girl going to keep her ears warm? Hats don’t exactly go together with buns and I vow to wear thermal headbands only when I’m working out or snowboarding.
urban to the rescue! The double whammy solution to my cold ears and bad hair day :)

Runway Recap: Timo Weiland Fall 2014

February 17, 2014

Next to Kate Spade, Timo Weiland is probably the show I was most excited about this New York Fashion Week. Why? For me, their collection always has the right mix of edginess and wearability. Don’t get me wrong — your girl is all about dramatic designs that’s worthy of a Vogue editorial. But many times those designs aren’t exactly practical or wearable out on the street. Timo Weiland perfected the art of fashion-forward wear that anybody can get on board with.
It goes without saying that I want every piece in this collection.

Runway Recap: Ruffian Fall 2014

February 14, 2014

I don’t know why, but the Ruffian Fall 2014 collection reminds me of Bride of Dracula (à la Francis Ford Coppola). In a good way, of course! It’s possible that it was the blood red tights, tapestry print, or the structured collar that made the connection for me. The line, which is inspired by 15th-century portrait artist Petrus Christus, borders on costume-y at times — but I am totally digging every single piece!

Read on to see photo highlights from the show and video of the runway finale.

Recap: Kate Spade Fall 2014 Preview

February 13, 2014

Colors, colors, colors! There are a lot of colors going on in the Fall 2014 collection and I am totally loving it. My favorite piece of the collection, by far, is the brilliantly bright canary yellow coat. I’m a total proponent of combating cold weather with bright clothing and this baby is sure to enliven any frosty day.

V-Day Picks

February 6, 2014

Valentine’s Day is less than eight day’s away. I hope you got your restaurant reservation lined up and that gift you ordered for your honey from Amazon is on its way in the mail!

You haven’t done either? Well get to it!
Not a fan of Valentine’s Day? Aw come on, just look at it this way: it’s a good excuse to eat tons of sweets and buy yourself some gifts! Who knows, maybe someone special will present you with an item from this list.
(hint hint: It’ll help a lot if you send that special someone this list!)

Supah Kooky Kenzo

February 4, 2014

Some days, when I check the mirror before leaving out for the day, I think to myself: I look entirely too “normal”, I need to cray it up a bit. This was one of those days. I still don’t think I look kooky enough though, even with my curly super-high ponytail and hair tie that’s reminiscent of a 90’s texas cheerleader LOL.

Outfit Combo: sweater from Kenzo, skirt from Jil Sander.

Recipe: Cinnamuffins

February 3, 2014

The cold weather has sort of put me into hibernation mode. I mean, I just can’t go outside (you can’t make me). Which is sort of how cinnamuffin came to be. I wanted to eat some cinnamon rolls, cause really who doesn’t. BUT I didn’t want to go to the store (again, it is cold). I originally tried to bake them in a cake pan — mistake! The sizes were wrong and it was hard to pull them apart. LIGHT-BULB use the muffin pan (DUH!). The only problem now is I didn’t know what to call them. My original ideas consisted of: muffin top rolls, cinnamon roll muffins, etc. (I mean you get it, they were bad). I needed some professional assistance. Soooo, asked my girl Kim for name ideas AND cinnamuffins were born.

Keep reading for my cinnamuffins recipe!

On a Cold Winter’s Day

January 29, 2014

How are you guys enjoying the cold weather? I sure am not loving it — not at all. I was visiting Jess in DC this past weekend and we sadly drove to the National Monument from her apartment, even though it’s only about a mile away. Not gonna lie: it took all of my strength to smile pretty in these pictures. And you better believe I ran straight back for the car as soon as I thought we had enough pics.

Evil Twin and Turban

January 23, 2014

I’ve been sort of obsessed lately with turbans since I learned how to tie them myself using a plain square scarf. It’s a great way to keep you ears warm in this cold weather, and especially awesome alternative when you get bored of doing the regular ol’ beanie or earmuffs routine. Plus, it doesn’t mess up your hair do and you can wear it with your hair up or down. Don’t need a crystal ball to know that there will be many more outfits in my future that involves turbans
