Motel Rocks My Hot Summer

July 18, 2012

It was another blazing hot San Antonio weekend & temperatures were well above the 100s! Okay I admit that was a bit of an exaggeration since it was really 94° — the humidity sure made it feel like it was 20 degrees hotter. Oh well, if I’m going to be sweating like a pig while eating brunch al fresco, I might as well do it in style in my Motel Rocks dress.

Outfit Combo: dress from Motel Rocks, Parable wedge sandals from Cosmo Corso via Gilt (find similar here and here), Laroux Denim Convertible Crossbody from Matt & Nat, Llosa sunglasses from Contego, black straw fedora from Forever 21 (find similar here and here).

Honey Badger Does Care…

July 11, 2012

…about looking good, that is!

I have to admit, the original reason I bought the Badger lip shimmer & tint is because I have an unhealthy obsession with the honey badger. Well I’m glad the cute, yet badass, mascot got me to make the purchase as it quickly became my favorite “go to” lip color.

I figured if their lip treatment is awesome, I’ll probably love their other products too, so I tried the cuticle care and foot balm. I love them—I use the balms every morning before I put on my lotion.

Do you use any Badger products? Any suggestions on ones I should try next?

A Quick Visit To The City

July 9, 2012

I had fun last week visiting my friend Lis at New York City, pretending I was one of the cool locals. But sadly, it was just a quick visit —I was there one day and gone the next.

Hey who knows, maybe someday my visit will be longer (a lot longer), and I’ll really be a local :)

Outfit Combo: crochet tank from Pins and Needles (via Urban Outfitters), calvary twill high-waist pleated pant from American Apparel, necklace from Langford Market , misha convertible backpack from Botkier, breezy suede thong sandal from Ecote (via Urban Outfitters).

Touristy Saturday

July 3, 2012

This past Saturday was my mom-in-law’s last day in San Antonio, so I had to take her on a touristy trip of San Antonio. We started off the day with shopping at the Pearl farmers market and lunch at La Gloria, which is pretty much my typical Saturday. Afterwards, Chris and I took her to visit El Mercado and Museo Alameda. I can’t believe I have never visited this museum in the seven years I’ve lived in San Antonio (although I did always wonder what was in that pretty pink building). Well, now I know! :)

Outfit Combo: tank top from Forever 21, shorts from Langford Market (find similar here and here), Parable wedge sandals from Cosmo Corso via Gilt (find similar here and here), round color-block sunglasses from ASOS, straw fedora hat from Urban Outfitters, bangle from Ann Taylor.

Ladies and Gentlemen …

June 29, 2012

… The King (que music) “Don’t step on my blue suede shoes” ^_^ Cheesy but had to do it since I’m rockin’ an Elvis shirt!

What a great evening. Me and several other bloggers attended the KC Blogger Meetup shopping event at Saks Off 5th. I loved the combinations of all my fav things: food, alcohol, shopping and gift cards! Also, I was able to hangout with other bloggers in the area and became the proud owner of some cute designer finds at low prices. Once the night was over, I left with a full stomach, some new friends, and some fashion essentials: an Emilio Pucci scarf and a pair of Joe’s Jeans shorts. Can’t wait for the next event at Madewell.

Outfit Combo: shirt: H&M, shorts: Forever 21, shoes: Loeffler Randall, sunglasses and bag: Chanel

Brunch At The Monterey

June 27, 2012

My mom-in-law has been in town since Saturday and I’ve been giving her the “foodie” tour of San Antonio, which of course would not be complete without a visit to The Monterey. This place is hands down one of the most delicious spots of SATX — and I especially love how the menu is constantly updated.

I took full advantage of the pretty mini-courtyard sitting area and got my mom-in-law to snap some blog pics while we were waiting for the food to come. I didn’t dare to wait until after, for fear that the food will distort the way my clothing fits around the waist, if you know what I mean…

Outfit Combo: sikly sleeveless top from Frenchi (via Nordstrom), maxi skirt from Vero Moda, sandals from Stuart Weitzman (find similar here and here), floppy straw hat from Urban Outfitters (find similar here and here), necklace from Adelante Boutique.

Back in Black

June 26, 2012

Although black isn’t really considered a summer color, it is still my ‘signature’ color. The majority of my wardrobe pieces are black mixed with exotic colors, patterns and textures. I try hard to step out of the comfort zone and mix things up, but in the end I’m always going to wear something black. This outfit keeps it real with my ‘steelo’ — cute but badass!

Outfit Combo: shirt: H&M, jeans: Joe’s Jeans (similar), scarf: Alexander McQueen, shoes: Madewell, sunglasses: Marc by Marc Jacobs (similar) and bag: Jason Wu for Target

FABB Sip and Shop

June 25, 2012

This past Saturday, the fashion and beauty bloggers of SAFABB got together at Adelante Boutique for a fun filled afternoon of mojitos, mini-facials and what else…shopping! Aside from getting to hang out with these lovely fashionable ladies, I also got to tried out a new hairdo (courtesy of The Platform) and of course did some damage to my American Express credit card.

Outfit Combo: sikly sleeveless top from Frenchi (via Nordstrom), shorts from H&M, leather toggle belt from American Apparel, sandals from Joie and clutch from ASOS.

Psychedelic Pants

June 21, 2012

My foray into printed pants continues! After dipping my feet to test the waters with black/white printed pants, I decided it’s time to kick it up a notch. What do you guys think about these ‘psychedelic’ pants? Too much or just the right amount of crazy?

Outfit Combo: unisex denim shirt from American Apparel, black tank from The Limited (find similar here and here), printed pants from Zara, Open Clic 120 patent-leather pumps from Christian Louboutin (find similar here and here).

Viva La Gloria!

June 12, 2012

This past weekend my friend Lynn and I ate brunch at the delicious La Gloria restaurant — a well deserved reward after “toiling” over what produce to buy at the Pearl Farmers Market. I convinced Lynn to snap some blog photos of me before I eat so much I can’t fit in my skirt anymore we eat brunch.

Outfit Combo: sikly sleeveless top from Frenchi (via Nordstrom), mini skirt from Forever 21 (find similar here and here), necklace from Langford Market and sandals from Pour La Victorie.

Floral & Denim

June 11, 2012

While browsing around the kids section, then the women’s section at H&M, my son came across this shirt and said ‘oh mom should get this, it will look cool on you’. As a mom, you always want to look ‘cool’ in front of your kids. So, I jumped at the chance to be my son’s hero for a day and show off his intuition.

Today, I’m finally exposing my son’s shirt selection in public! I decided to keep its edgy look by adding my black biker style boots and floral shorts for a more girly touch. Looking back at the photos, I really believe this outfit fits my personality and I’m glad my lil’ man enjoys shopping for me as much as I enjoy shopping for him.

Do your kiddos help you out when you shop?

Red Dress Event

June 8, 2012

It was an all red event last night at Langford Market San Antonio. We nibbled on strawberry fruit tarts and sipped on ruby red sangria while watching the fabulous fashion showcase from Langford Market and seven local San Antonio designers.

The local talents featured were Jasmine Martin, Brandi Zancketti, Maribel Padilla, Justine Rodriguez, Amelia Casas and Minta Sanchez.

Great Read: Fifty Shades of Grey

June 6, 2012

Don’t judge me, I caved in to see what the hype was. There has been SO much press, both positive and negative, around the Fifty Shades of Grey book series but ‘Honey Badger Don’t Care’! I have tried to read this book, and although it isn’t for me, the heroine still deserves to look #chictothenextlev

Keep reading to see what these characters are wearing.

You Better Work (Supermodel)

June 5, 2012

… Cover Girl — WORK, turn to the left WORK, now turn to the right Sashay Shante — RuPaul

Last month yours truly had an opportunity to watch some amazing models try out for Kansas City Fashion Week’s (KCFW) casting call! The entire experience from working an imaginary runway to deciding who will get featured and what won’t was thrilling. Although not everyone who tried out made the cut, I got some tips from Teisha Barber (KCFW, Executive Director) to share with existing and aspiring models to use at their next audition!

I’m not going to lie, whenever I see a mirror, I always do a little quick ‘smeyesing’ (a la Tyra Banks) practice. — P’Trique

V. By Roberto Valentin Fashion Show

June 4, 2012

I had THE BEST time this past Saturday at V. By Roberto Valentin‘s Fashion Show. Why did I have such a fabulous time, you ask? Well because I didn’t just get see his Summer and Fall/Winter collection, I actually got to walk in them!
At first I thought Robert was kidding when he asked if I would walk the runway in his collection — and I had to double check to make sure he knows that I’m 4’11”. But when I realized he was serious, of course I jumped at the chance! How often does an extra petite girl gets a chance to walk the runway, right?

This fashion show benefited American Youth Works, an organization dedicated to transforming the lives of at-risk youth through education, service and green jobs training.
Great fashion, the opportunity to walk the runway, AND knowing that the event is for a good cause: my kind of fashion trifecta.

Read on to see more photos and highlights from the event…

Ready to Wear

May 28, 2012

Today is a day of remembrance. Remembrance of all the men and women who served our nation and sacrificed so much more than we can ever repay! Thank you for our freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of fashion.

A couple of days ago, Kim (aka kimberlyloc) and yours truly attended the Fashion Group International (FGI) — ‘Ready to Wear Trend’ presentation at the Nelson Atkins. At the show, we eyeballed and silently critiqued upcoming fashion trends in both United States and Europe. While there, we also met and interviewed several fashionistas from KC who are actively trying to become internationally known. Their vision and creativity were memorable and intriguing. We certainly didn’t have enough and can’t wait until the next event (mid June) and encourage you to come along with us; we <3 our fans!

Outfit Combo: shirt: Victoria’s Secret (similar), jacket: H&M Fashion Star collection, shorts: Zara (similar), shoes: Madewell, sunglasses: Gucci (similar) and bag: Gucci (old similar style)

TGIF — and hell yeah, we’ve got a three-day weekend coming! It has been a VERY long work week, so I’m really looking forward to three days of relaxation.

This Memorial Day weekend is going to be dedicated to lazying around by the pool. I’m going to lay out and catch some sun, eat burgers and hot dogs, and maybe even read some books.

What are this weekend’s wardrobe essentials? Swimsuit, floppy hat and sunglasses, of course! Oh and let’s not forget the sunscreen.
