Vintage and Boheme

December 1, 2011

Vintage and Boheme
Sissy and I had oodles of fun shopping today. We started the trip at American Apparel, then visited the rows of vintage shops on Houston’s Montrose area. Afterwards, tired from all the shopping, we visited Boheme for some yummy cocktails and Saag Paneer. Well…really it was because my hubby, who I somehow talked into going with us, got tired of waiting around for us at the stores. There’s very little that good food and drinks can’t remedy hahaha.

Vintage and Boheme
Outfit Combo (on me): dress from Banana Republic, leather jacket from Romeo and Juliet Couture, canvas bag from Marc by Marc Jacobs, sunglasses from Proenza Schouler, oxford heels from Michael Kors.

Basic Pieces

November 30, 2011

If you haven’t noticed from our previous posts, we love blazers! It is a staple wardrobe item and definitely makes any simple outfit look that much more sophisticated. All these basic pieces are clothing items that I’m sure everyone has in their closet, paired with a blazer they all look that much more business-y. How are you mixing up your basic pieces?

Outfit Combo: blazer: Zara, shirt: H&M, jeans: Joe’s Jeans, shoes: Zara, necklace: Tiffany & Co., sunglasses: Marc Jacobs and bag: Fendi

So 80’s

November 29, 2011

So 80s
I am super excited to get to spend time with my sister this week. My sister, resident graphic illustrator for Mimi and Chichi, lives in Los Angeles (a.k.a. Hipsterland). So it was unsurprising that her favorite clothier is the very 80’s American Apparel.

High waist 80’s pants are not usually my cup of tea. But she pulled it off so well that it made me want to give the pants style a try. I loved it! This weekend’s sisterly bonding time will definitely include a trip to American Apparel for some high waist pants and oxford flats!

So 80s

Outfit Combo (on me): shirt from H&M, vintage scarf, pants from American Apparel, shoes from Michael Kors.
Outfit Combo (on my sister): clothing from American Apparel, shoes from Repetto, vintage Coach bag.

Cyber Monday: It’s Never Too Late to Shop!

November 28, 2011

BlackFriday / CyberMonday

Missed out on Black Friday? Get on the Cyber Monday train! I had tons of fun shopping with Heather a.k.a. GeeketeBits, but I know that staying up from midnight to 8:30 a.m. to shop is not everyone’s cup of tea. But don’t fret — Cyber Monday is the answer for those of you unwilling to deal with the crazy shoppers (read: Heather and I) on Black Friday.

Check out the Cyber Monday deals that we will definitely be taking advantage of.

Giving Thanks

November 24, 2011

Happy Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is more of an American holiday, but the premise is simple, be thankful for what you have. We have so much to be thankful for this year, especially celebrating our very first turkey day on Mimi and Chichi. As we get together with our friends and family, we have a few things that are top of mind. What’s at the top of our list? Waking up with our loved ones, enjoying the little luxuries in life (Thanks Nordstrom, Saks and Neiman Marcus) and spending time with Mimi and ChiChi. The cutest animals in the world. Happy Thanksgiving!

Caring for your UGGs

November 23, 2011

Uggs
I love my UGGs—they are the ultimate comfy go-with-everything boots. My trusty grey Bailey Button goes well paired with shorts when the weather is just getting a bit cold in the fall. They also look great paired with skinny jeans and heavy jacket in the winter time.

I used to be afraid to wear my UGGs out even when its a only bit rainy out, thinking that water is like Kryptonite them. But I found out during a recent trip to rainy Portland that they are tougher than they look. Although I don’t recommend that you start running through puddles and tread snow with them, it’s not the end of the world if you get your UGGs wet or dirty.

Leopard Print Scarf

November 17, 2011

Asos Scarf
On a beautiful autumn Sunday, we walked in the park and eat lunch outside! This is the way every Sunday afternoon should be. I defiantly love weekends that you never want to end. Makes me wish I didn’t have to work for a living. But alas, how would I pay for all the shoes and handbags if I didn’t. Back to the grind!

Outfit Combo: scarf: Asos, shirt: H&M, jacket: Joe’s Jeans, leggings: Forever 21, boots: Sesto Meucci, bag: Gucci and sunglasses: Burberry

Bow Tie Event at Hotel Havana

November 2, 2011

Bow Tie Event at Hotel Havana
My fashion love affair with the bow tie continues. I love to try out different outfit combos to pair them with. I recently found these awesome inexpensive cuffed herringbone shorts from Old Navy and I was dying to try them on. Unfortunately, the place where I work has pretty conservative, albeit casual, dress code. Since wearing them to work is out of the question, I figured an after-work happy hour at Hotel Havana‘s Ocho Lounge is the perfect opportunity to test out these babies. Plus having multiple outfit change in a day makes me feel like a celebrity—haha!

Spooky Treats

October 31, 2011

Spooky Treats
Cake pops are the latest theme party treat craze. They are bite size, cute, and are decorated to look like anything. Gita started making cake pops after discovering bakerella and purchasing her cake pop book. After she made the Hello Kitty pops, I was inspired to do the same and spread the creativity. This year, we doubled up our efforts and we both made cake pop treats for Halloween. Pumpkins, spiders and zombies oh my! Happy Halloween!

Caution

October 27, 2011

Caution
This outfit resembles a great mix of hard and soft textures. The leather jacket combined with the leopard print shirt give off a hard rock vibe, while the flowiness of the shirt brings about a bit of softness. Partner all that with the caution signs everywhere and I just feel like ‘Honey Badger don’t care’. What are some of your favorite looks to mix?

Outfit Combo: shirt: Forever 21, skirt: ModCloth, jacket: Zara, booties: Elizabeth and James, bag and sunglasses: Gucci

City Girl

City Girl
Here is another glamorous look using the sweater-dress seen here. What can I say, when I love a piece of clothing, I really do wear the heck out of it. The key is to mix it up or it will look like you are wearing the same thing over and over.

Outfit Combo: dress (worn as skirt): TopShop, skirt: Forever 21, shoes: Manolo Blahnik, clutch: Boutique in Austin and sunglasses: Burberry

Motel Rocks Dresses!

October 23, 2011

There’s nothing worse than coming to a party and then seeing someone else wearing your same outfit, right? That’s why more often than not, I prefer to do my clothes shopping online. Not only do I get to avoid the dreaded mall crowd, but I’m also able to find brands of clothing I won’t likely find at the local mall. Motel Rocks is a great example of this. Granted, shopping lesser-known brands online will not guarantee that you’ll be safe from wearing the same outfit as another girl in the club, but it will certainly decrease the odds.

I love the unique sexy styles of motel dresses. Many of their dresses has interesting intricate details on the back—so you can be sure your exit will be as captivating as your entrance. Read more to check out my Motel Rocks dress picks.

Holy Blazer, Zara!

October 17, 2011

Zara Blazers

I love blazers—it’s my favorite work “uniform”. If you’re going to guess what I’m wearing to work tomorrow, it’s a safe bet that a blazer will probably be part of the outfit. A few days ago, my co-workers asked me for a recommendation on a place to buy blazers. I checked my closet and realized that almost all my blazers are from Zara! They have tons of style at very reasonable prices.

Outfit Combo: necklace: Kenneth Cole, shirt: Banana Republic, skirt: Marc Jacobs, blazer: Zara and booties: BCBG

Halloween Costume: Karl Lagerfeld

Halloween Karl Lagerfeld

What better costume for Halloween than the man of fashion himself, Karl Lagerfeld. His look is so signature that you can rest assure that you will be recognized by fashion fanatics on the street. This is my homemade idea for the costume using clothing items that are similar to pieces in my closet. Hopefully this inspires you to re-create this look, or buy some new Chanel pieces!

Halloween Costume: Padme (Star Wars)

October 12, 2011

Halloween Costume Padme
After purchasing an Anakin costume complete with lightsaber, I wasn’t in the mood to purchase a Padme costume as well. But since my son and I like to dress up together, I decided to make my trick-o-tricking costume out of items I already owned. Here is how I went about bringing these similar items together for those of you who are interested in creating your own Padme outfit.

Halloween Costume For Guys: Clockwork Orange

October 12, 2011

Deranged Alex DeLarge could very well be one of the greatest villains of all time. Although he professes “you can’t have a society with everybody behaving in my manner of the night”, maybe Halloween is the right time to take up his bad manners. Or on second thought, maybe just his style of clothing—I’m not looking to bail anyone out of jail on Halloween night.

Halloween Wicked Witch
Ever since we saw Wicked in NYC, I have been obsessed with the Wicked Witch of the West aka Elphaba. And since this is the month where everyone is in the mood to dress up, I thought I would create a look for Elphaba. This is my homemade idea for this costume using clothing items that are similar to pieces in my closet. Hopefully, I have inspired you to re-create this look for next to nothing.

My Saturday with Tim Gunn

October 10, 2011

Gita and Tim Gunn
This weekend has been one of the best weekends ever. I got to see the Tim Gunn in the flesh!!! He is probably the nicest celebrity I’ve ever met (although I should caveat that the list is not long). He even said that I was stylish. Understandably, that left me with an un-erasable smile for the rest of the weekend.
I’m on the first few pages of his book, Gunn’s Golden Rules: Life’s Little Lessons for Making It Work, where he mentioned the importance of courtesy and good manners. I’m loving Tim Gunn more and more as I’m reading this book!
