Cozy in All Black

February 21, 2017

The Fifth Label Black Abstraction Knit

Do you ever have days where you just can’t be bothered to get “done up”? On days like these, I really have to try hard to resist the urge to leave my apartment in sweatpants. While fortunately my advertising day job gives me a lot of leeway when it comes to casual wear, I’m not sure how tolerant they would be if I showed up in pajamas. This is when I go to my fall back combo: all black. I swear, wearing all black is like an instant chic effect, even if part of your ensemble includes a shapeless (and oh so very comfortable) knit sweater. I also fully took advantage of the fact that it’s winter, so it’s socially acceptable to wear beanie, even indoors. Yeah I totally woke up too late to wash my hair on day three. Beanie hats for the win! \_(ツ)_/

All monochromatic color combos need that “little something” accent that makes the outfit pop. For this ensemble, my chosen piece de resistance is my time-turner necklace (Pop quiz: which book-turned-into-movie featured this accessory?). I love wearing this piece because it pretty much acts as a secret nerdy handshake. Only Hogwarts alumni (like myself, duuuhhh) will recognize it. Most people will just think it’s a regular ol’ pretty necklace.

Not a Dress for Valentine’s Day

February 6, 2017

Valentine's Day Jumpsuit

When it comes to dressing up for a fancy date night out, I love a good dress as much as the next girl. Usually I go for a solid colored piece, with a flattering silhouette, that’s easy to style and build up with additional accessories. But for this upcoming Valentine’s date wear, I wanted to do something a little bit different: I’m opting for a red velvet romper. I’m going for a red colored piece, of course, to be be occasion appropriate. And there’s something about velvet that feels super luxe, sexy, and very date night appropriate.

What I also like about this romper is that it can be styled multiple ways. Amp up the sex appeal and luxe feel by adding faux fur jacket, a pair of stilettos, and lots of bling. Or you can make it feel more street tough by pairing it with a leather moto jacket, doc marten boots, and spiky jewelry. I decided to go somewhere in between (hence the fur jacket and rocker boots).

Body Conceptions

February 2, 2017

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Body Conceptions. I received free fitness classes as compensation. All opinions are 100% mine.

Working out consistently has always been a struggle for me. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying: the hardest part of going to the gym is getting there. This rings so true for me. I really enjoy working out and think that nothing beats the adrenaline rush you get from a super sweaty boot camp class. But man, no matter how hard the workout session is, seems like just getting there is much harder. I’m definitely one of those people who makes excuses for themselves (i.e. oh gosh I need to finish this presentation so I guess I can’t workout tonight). So there are different tactics I take to combat my propensity to make excuses. First, I’ve gotten really good at incorporating workout wear into my work wear, so I can transition more seamlessly from the office to the gym. And second, I’ve been joining challenges that “gamifies” my fitness life.

Everyone has different ways to motivate themselves to meet a goal. I happen to be a pretty competitive person, so I do well in a friendly competition situation. Late last year, I joined the Body Conception Focus for Fall challenge as an extra motivation for me to workout more. This challenge included six-weeks of unlimited classes and weekly measurement to monitor progress. As a bonus cherry on top, as a challenger I also got all sorts of discounts to a variety of partnership services.

Faces

Atalier Wonder Face Bodycon Dress

When it comes to clothing, although my taste is pretty eclectic, I typically veer the solid colors. Sure there are the odd graphic tees and embroidered sweater here and there (mostly of cats), but I tend to prefer non-patterned items. Call it laziness, but solid items are just much easier to pair up and worn different ways. So you know when I get myself a patterned item, and a crazy one at that, it’s one that I really love.

Staying Warm in Layers

January 4, 2017

Uniqlo Heattech

Despite my limited amount of space, I am not one of those people who rotates their closet by season. To be honest, it’s mostly out of laziness. I mean, who has time to pack and put their clothing away in storage, #amiright? But another reason is that I love to find ways to wear every piece of clothing I have year round. While it’s probably near impossible to pull of a yellow linen sun dress in the dead of winter, you’ll be surprised how many of your summer outfits can be “winterized”. Anything, from shorts to rompers and dresses, that’s in solid color or have winter-friendly patterns is fair game. You can transform to be winter ready by simply adding warm layers underneath. I love to do this using Uniqlo heattech items since the material is thin. This way I can add warmth without the bulk.

Moto and Metallic

December 20, 2016

Although I’ve had this maxi metallic pleated skirt forEVER, it’s still going strong in my regular outfit rotation. In an age of fast fashion that we’re in now, it’s always nice when a piece of clothing actually last longer (and is still fashionably relevant) after a couple of years. There’s something about metallic clothing that can instantly glam up any outfit. You’re never going to feel frumpy when you’re wearing metallic! Top it off with a faux-suede moto jacket, and you’ve got yourself a glam look with a touch of edge to it.

Away With The Laces

December 13, 2016

Adidas Stan Smith Velcro
Tell me if you’ve had this problem: you’re (as usual) running late and hurrying to leave your house. Your significant other (or whoever else you’re holding up) is waiting for you not-so-patiently by the door. “Okay, okay, I’m ready, just got to put on my shoes,” you say. Then you do that thing where you try to to do it without actually untying the shoelace, which is a futile effort.

Times like these is when I get really frustrated with lace-up shoes and why my slip on espadrilles was on heavy rotation in the summertime. But alas, the weather it way too cold for that — boots and sneakers is pretty much a required footwear choice for the foreseeable future. Of course, being the committed lazy efficient person that I am, I thought there must be an easy way to do sneakers sans laces. All of this without compromising style, of course. Then the light bulb went off: what about Velcro? Duh! Those shoes are awesome and were a favorite of mine when I was a little kiddo. So why not now?

Selma Drye Holiday 2016 Collection

December 8, 2016

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Selma Drye for Out of Office NY Network. All opinions are 100% mine.

Kellie Pickler’s Selma Drye Holiday 2016

Man what I would give for an NYC apartment that is entertaining worthy. But sometimes our dreams can be bigger than our pocket book — and that’s definitely the situation that I’m currently in. So what’s a girl to do when she wants to throw a holiday soirée? You gotta get your fave blogger babes together and pool your resources. Someone’s bound to be a friend who has friend who’s willing to lend out their kick ass apartment (one that’s way more spacious than my small one bedroom, for sure). Throw in some good frozen apps from Trader Joe’s, and tons of wine and cocktails for good measure, and you got yourself a swinging party. Of course all of the festivity decor needs to be on point. I mean, we are style bloggers after all.

Squaring Away The Check

December 5, 2016

This is a sponsored post written by me for Square Cash. All opinions are 100% mine.

Square Cash App

One thing that you guys might have deduced from our Instagram feed is that bloggers love to get together for brunch, dinner, happy hour, or pretty much any reason we can make up. The eating, drinking and chatting is always good fun. But splitting the check? Not so much. Especially when we’re in a bigger group. I just hate being that person asking the poor waiter to split the check eight ways. Back just a few years ago, if you wanted to avoid asking that awkward question, you choice was pretty limited. And if you’re the one who volunteers to pay the check, you’re might even be left with another uncomfortable prospect: reminding your friend who “forgot” to pay you back.

Thanks to the prevalence of money transfer apps, we now have options to help avoid all of that awkwardness — yay technology! One of such app I recently discovered is Square Cash. I know what you’re thinking: I already use that other app that rhymes with schmenmo and they’re all pretty much the same. Welp, that’s not quite right. Read on to find out my take on how it differs and how Square Cash might be the right one for you.

November 22, 2016

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of JTV.com. I was paid for this post and received jewelry pieces as compensation.

December 25th is quickly approaching. How’s that gift list of yours going? Still racking your brain on what to get your loved ones still left unchecked on the Christmas list? Well look no further than JTV.com to get your shopping done. Because “I hate jewelry and shiny bling” said no one ever. There is a ton of awesome jewelry on JTV.com, and I especially love their huge selection of earrings and necklaces. Who knows, you might even find a few pieces you’ll want to get for yourself. Because dang it, you deserve to get that gift (that you always wanted to give yourself).

Giveaway Friday: LS Revolution

November 18, 2016

LS Revolution Absolutely Not D'Orsay Pump
It really has been awhile since we had a Giveaway Friday on Mimi and Chichi. The holidays, otherwise known as the seasons of gift (my favorite time of the year) is coming up, I thought it would be appropriate to start it back up. And what better way to kick it off by having one featuring one of my recent fave find: Absolutely Not D’Orsay pump from LS Revolution.

Why am I so gaga over LS Revolution? I just love that how comfortable their shoes are. Their motto is “fashion AND comfort” (it’s actually written on the box) and they really mean it. This is super important especially for someone like me who lives in NYC (read: we take public transportation everywhere). Because, lets face it, the prettiest pair of shoes is pretty much useless when it means that I have to Uber everywhere every time I wear it. Footwear that is both stylish and functional is worth its weight in gold.

One lucky reader will get to try on the style on comfort of the Absolutely Not D’Orsay pump for their very own. Read on to see more shots of this lovely pair of pumps find out how you can win.

Put On a (Big) Smile

November 15, 2016

I have crooked bottom teeth. It’s not terrible, but sure looks far from good. So when I smile, I usually make a point not to show my bottom teeth. Since I’m able to hide it, fixing my smile wasn’t something that’s on the priority list. I sure as hell am not going through the suffer through metal braces, and paying upwards of $7,000 for Invisalign just seems much too excessive. Enter: Smile Direct Club, the invisible braces kit that cost less-than-half of Invisalign. What’s the secret to their economical price tag? They cut out the expensive visits to the middle man (i.e.: dentists).

Rusted Suede

November 1, 2016

Mink Pink Now or Never Rust Orange Suede Jacket

This rusted suede jacket is a recent favorite of mine. I’m just a sucker for soft touchable clothing. And this suede is so soft and velvety, it makes you want to just rub all day long (even at the risk of looking like a total weirdo). Plus the color is brilliant. Nothing brightens up a gloomy gray fall day like a touch of bright color.

Back to Basics: The Fall Edition

October 28, 2016

Uniqlo wool cashmere chester coat

Fall is in full swing and it looks like the cold weather is here to stay. No more highs of 70° — well at least not here in New York City. For me, the change to cold weather is always a bit bittersweet. I miss my sleeveless crop tops and the ablity to rock sexy off shoulder tops sans jackets, that’s for sure. But the drop in temperature also means layering is in play. And, no exceptions, everyone always looks more polished in layers. I love seeing all of the different ways people layer up when I walk outside. The city just looks more stylish in October than June somehow, LOL.

When it comes to Fall basics, a good utilitarian coat comes to mind. Nothing too crazy thick, mind you. We’re in the low to mid 50’s weather territory, so it’s yet not time to bust out that parka that makes you look like one giant blob (thank god for that). My favorite fall go-to coat is the wool and cashmere blend chester coat from Uniqlo. The wool makes the coat warm enough to meet the temperature drop requirement and the cashmere means the coat is super soft to the touch. Who doesn’t want to be enveloped in soft touchable warmth? And as far as color goes, nothing is more utilitarian than Camel because it goes with literally everything. I haven’t even gotten to the best part about this coat: it comes at a sensible price of $149. Talk about the total package.

Wrapped In Tartan

October 20, 2016

Sanctuary Cassadei Plaid Maxi Dress

There’s nothing better than a wrap dress. It’s versatility means that it can be dressed up or down, not to mention that it gives you an instant slimming effect. So when I saw one in one of my favorite tartan pattern, of course I had to snag it.

Black with a Side of Denim

October 18, 2016

Sometimes I feel like this blog is sort of my shopping confessional to you guys. Well let me tell you about my latest purchase sin… It really is dangerous to have an office only mere blocks away from the second largest Topshop flagship store in the world (and on the way to some of your lunchtime spots). This is definitely not the first time I’ve come here on the way to get lunch, “just to look around”. But this time I do have a good reason to go in: I had a gift card I got from one of my past fashion week events. Of course being the totally responsible person that I am (read: sarcasm), instead of making a purchase that’s the amount of the gift card, I used it as an excuse to go hog wild at the store.
One of the items that I couldn’t leave the store with was the moto studded super rip mom jeans. I’m a total sucker for good ripped jeans and the studs was just a delicious cherry on top. Plus, I love how Topshop drops all pretenses and straight up calls it “mom jeans”. I get a real kick out of that for some silly reason.

Haute Hippie

October 13, 2016

Haute Hippie Sleeveless Lace Dress

Fall is definitely in full swing. Everyone is sipping on their PSL and jumping on the OTK bandwagon (that’s pumpkin spice latte and over-the-knee boots for those of you not in the know). Maybe it’s because I’m missing summer. Maybe it’s because OTK boots don’t really work on my short stature. Or maybe I’m just plain in denial. But I’m not quite ready to let go of my sleeveless pieces yet. I’m not sure how it’s going everywhere else, but New York still get slivers of 70° weather here and there. Combined that with my daily routine that involves a lot of waking and body’s tendency to get overheated, my sleeveless shirts and dresses still get a lot of play. For how much longer, though? I’m not sure. But I’m going to keep it up for as long as I can.
