The Calm

January 22, 2014

So glad that I ran a few errands before the snow storm hit yesterday. Now it’s super cold and covered in snow again. It was so windy this morning that Bear didn’t want to go outside to pee (the struggle is real).

Recipe: Banana Crumb Muffins

January 17, 2014

Bananas have been a staple in our house since we found out it was a minion fav. The down side of having bananas all the time, is they get ripe, REALLY FAST. As a result, we have had to get crafty on how we back these bad boys. From banana donuts, to pudding, and now muffins (pause for effect) I kinda feel like I need some minions of my own. Ya heard!

Portrait of a Lady

January 15, 2014

I love accessories that masquerades as other things — like this retro-printed Henry James novel that is really a Kate Spade clutch in disguise. The combo of the clutch and the shift dress makes me feel super old-timey. Although I can’t quite decide if this look would make me fit in better as extra in an Audrey Hepburn movie (i.e. How to Steal a Million Dollars) or Mad Men. What do you think?

Scandal

January 14, 2014

So I finally gave in and checked out Scandal this past weekend. Not gonna lie — the show is GOOD! I mean at first I thought all my friends were just hyping it up, but NO it really is addicting. I’m still not caught up, so don’t ruin anything for me (please).

Outfit Combo: top: cardigan sweater via Sheinside, bottom: top shop skinny jeans (similar here), boots: Vince Camuto via Nordstrom (similar here and here), and sunnies: Ray-Ban Aviators

See By Chloe

January 13, 2014

Okay so I guess my borrowing has gotten out of control. This is another outfit that I put together while I was on winter break and therefore was able to reach in, not just to my sister’s suitcase, but my mom’s closet! The lovely jeweled shirt is a borrowed item frommy mom’s and the coat was snagged from my sister. I was particularly eager to borrow the coat since I’ve been eyeing a similar coat, but haven’t been able to commit to the $300 price tag. So it was great to be able to take my sister’s for a test run. Not gonna lie: I did wish that I could borrow the coat on a more permanent basis and don’t have to give it back at the end of the day (haha just kidding sis)

Recipe: Chocolate Muffins

January 9, 2014

If you can’t tell from all the posts by Gita, I’ve been out sick — with the FLU (gasp). No fun, no fun at all. Now that I’m starting to feel like a regular person again, I decided to bake some comfort food. None other than nommy choco muffins. This version is super moist on account of the extra chocolate chips I put in (total fat kid, I know). Make some for yourself, and I dare you to only eat one.

Borrowed Kenzo

January 7, 2014

One of the things I love about growing up with a sister is that my closet is basically doubled. Unfortunately, nowadays my sissy and I live in opposite coasts, so I have to rely on my own closet … most of the time. When we visit each other, like during this past winter break, we get the rare opportunity of “doubling” our closet again and trying on each other’s clothes. When I saw the uber cute Kenzo goodies that she had purchased recently, of course I had to take them for a spin!

Yay for sisters and doubling closets! Although, I wish we don’t live so far from each other and get to do this more often ☹.

2014 Resolution: Take It Off!

January 2, 2014

2014 is fully here and I am totally committed to keeping my ONE new years resolution: wash my face every night before bed. And by wash, I mean the full on ritual; none of that make-up remover towelette BS.
I know what you’re probably thinking: “Dude, that is a no duh resolution. You don’t do that already?” I have to admit, there have been lazy nights where I feel asleep on the couch with full make-up. Or those late party nights, where passing out as soon as I get home was more appealing than making a face wash pit-stop. Well, NO MORE!

December 10, 2013

Tis’ the season to bake and bake some more. I mean what else are you going to do when the weather outside is super nasty and you are stuck in the house all day with nothing but 90s show re-runs on Netflix. NOT saying this has happened to me or anything. Just saying it’s time to bake and what better way to start off the season than some YUMMY cookies — not just any cookie GINGERBREAD. This cookie isn’t for everyone, but it does go hand in hand with all the media hype in December.

Recipe: Butternut Squash Soup

December 4, 2013

I’ve been a fan of fall ever since back in the day. One (of many) reason, is with the weather change comes me, making and jaring soup LIKE A CRAZY PERSON. I’m serious, if you don’t believe me just come over. An all time fat kid, eat it up in day, favorites is butternut squash soup. I really LOVE the hearty soup base mixed with a hint of curry and honey. Ya, that’s right, I said CURRY. You know being married to a Persian I had to throw some curry into this soupy nom-ness.

I Love You, Kitteh Sweatuh!

December 3, 2013

It’s no secret that I’m a total cat lady. So when I found the most adorable kitty sweater kitteh sweatuh ever on ModCloth, you better believe I jumped on it. Too bad that this day was a bit too cold to wear the sweater just by itself. It was so windy that I was too chicken to take off my jacket even for a quick photo snap.

Military

December 2, 2013

Everyone knows that I LOVE to rock a little bit of the military inspo in my looks. This is partly because I work a uniform for six years (Air Force) and partly because I like the look (DUH). What most people don’t realize is the majority of the military clothing I own is LEGIT — that’s right! It is either one of my old uniforms OR donated items from friends and family members. YAY for all the generous peeps in my life who served and continue to serve.

Recipe: Veggie Rolls

November 21, 2013

Alright, alright, I know it’s fall going into winter — so you are prolly thinking WTH are you posting veggie rolls for. Well the answer is because I love these things and pretty much eat them on the reg. Making the actual rolls is SUPER easy, I pick different veggies depending on what my mood is. I personally this the main thing with veggie rolls is the right dipping sauce. My FAV flavor combo is peanut-y with spice.

Recipe: Shakshuka

November 12, 2013

I posted a picture of the shakshuka dish I made a couple of weeks ago and quite a few people have been asking for the recipe, so here it is!

Shakshuka, while sounding like something you’re supposed to respond ‘bless you’ to, is actually a middle-easter dish of poached eggs on spicy tomato sauce. It’s quick becoming one of my go-to dish since its easy to make and can be customized according to the ingredients I have in the pantry. It’s also super versatile — the eggs make it a great brunch dish, but it’s substantial enough to be a dinner dish as well. I usually pair mine up with garlic bread, but it’s also delicious with pita bread, steamed white rice, or on its own.

Keep reading for the full shakshuka recipe (and bonus garlic bread recipe)!
